Hola amigos de Hive: Sé que el 14 de febrero ya pasó, pero querÃa mostrarles un poco del regalo que hice para una amiga.
Ella ama las velas que hago, aunque nunca las enciende. Las guarda de adorno y las huele de vez en cuando.
Hi Hive friends: I know Valentine's Day was on February 14th, but I wanted to show you a little bit of the gift I made for a friend.
She loves the candles I make, even though she never lights them. She keeps them as decoration and smells them from time to time.
Me llegó este molde nuevo y quise estrenarlo con ella. Cuando los moldes son nuevos, es un poco difÃcil adaptarse y suele pasar que el envase tiende a romperse las primeras veces hasta que se agarra el truco.
Los envases los hago con cemento. El color lo agrego con pigmentos o pintura acrÃlica; en este caso, fue con pintura acrÃlica.
I got this new mold and wanted to try it out with her. When the molds are new, it's a bit difficult to adapt and the container tends to break the first few times until you get the hang of it.
I make the containers with cement. I add the color with pigments or acrylic paint; in this case, it was with acrylic paint.
Esta tapa, en el primer intento de secado salió muy mal por la pintura. Se cuarteó y no tenÃa arreglo, asà que tuve que montar otra tapa desde cero. La siguiente tapa también se partió, pero esta sà tuvo arreglo. Por falta de tiempo, no alcanzaba a hacer otra.
Lo siguiente fue dejar secar el envase por unos dÃas para lijar los detalles y sellarlo.
Los detalles me tomaron un tiempo porque el envase quedó desnivelado, pero al final se resolvió muy bien.
Para el sellado, el envase debe haber secado correctamente. De lo contrario, apenas el envase toque el horno, puede partirse. Luego de pasar por el horno, sello con cera de coco para darle un acabado suave y que el cemento no se sienta en las manos.
This lid, on the first try, came out very bad because of the paint. It cracked and there was no fixing it, so I had to assemble another lid from scratch. The next lid also broke, but this one could be fixed. Due to lack of time, I didn't have time to make another one.
The next step was to let the container dry for a few days to sand the details and seal it.
The details took me a while because the container was uneven, but in the end it turned out very well.
For sealing, the container must have dried properly. Otherwise, as soon as the container touches the oven, it can break. After going through the oven, I seal with coconut wax to give it a smooth finish and prevent the cement from feeling rough in the hands.
El siguiente paso fue hacer la vela y envasarla. Este fue el resultado del set completo. Me siento muy contenta con el resultado. Espero que también les guste.
The next step was to make the candle and put it in the container. This was the result of the complete set. I am very happy with the result. I hope you like it too.
