The Lakes of Covadonga

A road winds from the religious playland of Covadonga through a mountainous landscape, and ends at Enol and Ercina, twin glacial lakes separated at birth by a hilly clump of land.

The lakes are only twelve kilometers away from Covadonga, but the steep, curvy drive requires 30 minutes to complete, and even more than that on busy days. Los Lagos de Covadonga are a popular destination; a gratifying breath of fresh air after the overly religious, incense-impregnated atmosphere of Covadonga.

Although the amount of tourists detracts from the sense of tranquility Enol and Ercina might otherwise possess, they’re still worth visiting. A number a hiking routes pass by, and there are tables for picnics.

Looking back now at this post it angers me that we didn't invest more time in the Covadonga area, we could have easily spent 2 weeks here or even more here. But again, this was our very first For 91 Days (we visited those lakes in 2010) and just now after 11 years we're finally finding our way in the way we travel and the tone how we want to write our experiences on our blog.

Asturias Photo Archive

It's also interesting how I as a photographer changed over the years as well. I'm not just talking about better cameras and such. When I go through the Asturias photo archives now, I'm really surprised about the images I've chosen to publish. But worse though, what Images I didn't choose, I keep finding these amazing images which were just rotting away on my hard drive. But not for long, once I've updated all of the articles from our time in Asturias, I will gather all of these gems and finally put them online.

This is from our Asturias Travel Blog.
