4th of July at Silverwood Theme Park and Boulder Beach Water Park in North Idaho - Thursday
Yesterday morning it took us a while to get going but we managed to get out of the house by about 10:15am to head east to Silverwood Theme Park in North Idaho, just south of Athol. The waterpark and rides opened at 11am and we were walking in at 11:30.
@stryeyz good friend works at the park so we were gifted tickets for the day. We made a beeline for the Boulder Beach area so we could stake out a spot to land for the day. This is the little kids play area.
We found our spot on a rise in the midst of the waterpark. @stryeyz took J to the roller coaster side for a ride on Timber Terror. I went with R into the wave pool for at least half an hour.
After we were out for a bit he decided to go for a loop of the lazy river. I caught sight of him as he went under the bridge right by our spot.
The new addition to the water park is really nice. The new Rapids Grill is setup well and makes for a quick purchase, which was good as the boys were starving.
This was our spot in the shade of the tree at the intersection of the paths. It was a lot of people watching which is ALWAYS interesting to me.
That is the new water slide coaster that opened this year. It had a line to the bottom of the stairs all day long.
There are always the shit menial jobs at any place of work. This poor kid had litter duty and it looked like a seriously SHIT JOB. He made the loops of the paths with his broom and bin and he looked seriously bored the whole time.
We closed the water park down and headed to the main street area. R won himself some stuffed Pokemon then J ended up maxing out the old Galaga game and got a 500 ticket win. It took minutes for the tickets to all spool out.
Next door was the ice cream shop where we stopped for scoops of sherbert and ice cream.
We headed out of the park as the sun was getting lower.
The tunnel under highway 95 that is the main path north and south.
We got home at near dark and I managed to stay up for a while and could hear some fireworks in the distance but this year there was virtually no booms in our valley. I suspect more people were away from home than at home so likely the reason why.
Today I get my new fly line which I am stoked on and am anxious to load the reel. I should wash the reel and oil it before I load the line though. @stryeyz and our friend will be taking the boys to a parkour gym today which will blow their minds. I will be here at the farm as I have a load of work that needs to be done and I also want to see the EURO quarter finals today.

I've been curious about that water park expansion, but not curious enough to make the drive and pay the entry fee. Sounds like it was perfect for your kids though!
It's rather nice being all brand new and all. The new cabanas look pretty awesome and it opens up a lot more space, though it will still get pretty crowded. We were lucky it was a 5k day and not 10k+ in the park.
Sad to see the Surplus 1 burnt down.
Yeah, that surplus store sold me a lot of ammo and various odds and ends over the years. I often wondered whether it had been around long enough to have been the inspiration for "Grogan's War Surplus" in Pat McManus' stories.
I'm old enough to remember when the first water park expansion was the new attraction.
The shittiest part I think is that they weren't insured. If they own the lot then they have something but that building is gone. It was there for 43+ years so very well could have been what Pat wrote about.
