Saturday Snippets

Just because, some updated pics of my stall at the market. It's getting to that time of the year that the kitchen diary fills up as the summer harvest begins. Next year will mark my 10th year and it's quite something to think this all began with soup.

After the soup came the koeksisters and then shortly after, the chicken liver pate. The preserves came a couple of years later and that's what necessitated an "extension" to the stall.

The bags and aprons, and now the blanket (which I still haven't decided whether or not I'm selling) are a story in themselves. As is the stand...

I guess I should write those as part of the 10th anniversary...we shall see.

Speaking of the market, a regular customer - of a range of things from chilli jam to butter (and friend), stopped to buy soap and picked up a bar of the activated charcoal and rose geranium. We ended up chatting about the delicate rose geranium fragrance and he lamented how they has "lost" theirs when they sold a property. That give me a horrible thought that we had lost ours.

Before I headed off to my usual Saturday rendezvous, I headed into the garden to look for her.

Then I remembered: she has had a severe - and necessary hair cut, and is full of green shoots and the odd flower. If the summer is as hot as it promises to be, I look forward to using some of her leaves in iced tea and as additional flavouring in my homemade lemonade.

Then I spied the nearby plum tree.

I discovered that we might have an even bigger plum crop than last year. They have a way to go and will hopefully survive the strong summer south easter.

Post script: I am trying to participate in @traciyork's November #HiveBloPoMo. I emphasise trying because the last two months have been exactly that - trying. There have been times that I've just been too exhausted and uninspired to post, let alone write something profound. That shouldn't stop you - or anyone. Read about how to participate here.

I've made it to day 6!

Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:

  • re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
  • and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
I blog to the Hive blockchain using a number of decentralised appplications.
  • From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.

  • lastly, graphics are created using partly my own photographs, images available freely available on @hive.blog and Canva.

I bet those are some good tasting sour dough buns, natural and organic! Nothing like we have here in America!

They are, even if I say so, myself. I freeze, and we eat what I don't sell. I can't remember when I last bought commercial bread.

Yummy! I look forward to seeing what you have every week. Where do you think I get my fun menus from?

I can see the growth since I have been here! Good luck on the HiveBloPoMo!!

Ah, you know, Denise, my Hive friends have shared more than half of this journey: I've been on the blockchain for more than half the time I've been doing the market. Your virtual support means the world!

I am glad to inspire your menus...I didn't know! I love it!

Thank you for both the good wishes and for your gift!

I love your market stall, Fiona. And you don't know how much I would love to wander around the market one day and try your delicacies.
By the way, a plum jam wouldn't be bad at all!
Have a lovely week 😊

Ah, one day!

One of my standards is a spicy plum jam. Swiss swallows take jars of it back home every year!
