When a Company Undervalues Their Employees
Most people out there including me work basically for someone else. Even if you work as a freelancer most likely you will be working on other people's projects which is completely fine. Something that was quite rare a couple of years ago and it's still somewhat rare is appreciation at work.
Appreciation at work has different forms and thus can be translated differently. The easiest thing to do though if you run a company or have a managerial role and people under you is to be respectful to your employees/team and say a simple "good job". Even though it seems that it doesn't have any value, trust me it does. If the employer/manager actually says the above with honestly then the employee will feel and will feel good, increasing his/her productivity and most likely stay longer.
Ofc appreciation is just the first step, as it doesn't bring any food on the table. Salary and extra benefits play an important role but above everything, as i said a while ago, employees should be respected and not taken advantage of. I have a small story from a friend of mine that i was out for a coffee today to simply highlight the importance of everything i just said. I believe real-life examples are the best ones in cases like these.
So my friend was working over a year in a logistics role let's say and was earning an X amount of money having 3 years of working experience in that field. Recently a new employee started working that would be basically the assistant of my friend and in general his role was an assistant role as he had no prior experience. So far so good. Now as i like to say a company is basically a small community where sooner or later we get to learn mostly everything for everyone.
So he basically learned that the new employee was earning more money than him. In other words, an employee with 0 years of working experience in an assistant's position had a starting salary of +100 euros than my friend who had 3 years of working experience and was basically his Team Lead let's say. After he discovered it ofc he started searching for other positions and let the company know about it as well.
They have decided to increase his salary to the same amount as the assistant and promised him more money next year as he is "valuable" to them. Ofc as you can understand as i would do as well, he now is quite dissatisfied with how they treated him and continues to search for new roles. Given our conversation, he is close to an offer from 2 companies, and ofc he has asked for more than he currently earns with that increase.
If he receives an offer as he told me, he will accept. Thus, the company he currently works for with their a stupid way of thinking, they lost a let's say senior employee and they will be forced in a couple of weeks to search for a new one costing them more money in the long run. This is something that i have heard happening a lot of a times and i don't really understand the logic behind the CEO/Manager.
Bottom, line if you own a company or lead a team, be respectful and fair with your employees. If you are an employee and witness a behavior like the above, i would advise you to start searching for new roles where you will be treated better. That way may also give those people understanding that they should be thinking more of the people instead of their pockets!

Thanks for sharing that story! It is indeed like that and I have numerous examples from my friend's stories... As I was working for myself most of my life, I did have a similar experience with my business partners... The same thing with appreciation... Working with a company for years, bringing them profits, to acknowledge that they are giving some new company better prices/discounts, etc... The logical thing is to move on and find a business partner that appreciates you and your business...
If we want to go a step forward, we can implement the same thing here on HIVE... You support someone, upvote, comment, help out, to find out that a person supports X person who undermines you and the complete platform... Move on... 🙂
