3 Things I Like and Hate about Hive

Hey everyone i hope you are well!

Even though i tend to make lengthy posts i will try to keep this a bit sort and i will also add some gifs to make the Hate part pass by smoother and with fewer hard feelings. So i was thinking of writing a movie/series review but i changed my mind as there has been some time for me making a post like that and while some things remain as is, some have changed. Let's start with the bad and the ugly and continue to what i like!

3 Things I Like About Hive

Zero Costs

I think first and foremost the thing about how much Hive "costs" is something that we all neglect even though it is one of the most important things. Basically, Hive is free, anyone can create an account with close to zero costs.

This is not only something huge but it is unique as well. When i have discovered Hive (Back in the days Steem), i honestly could not believe that i can create an account for free, start posting whatever the heck i wanted to and that i will also receive money for doing so. I was so confused and afraid of it being a scam that it took me 2-3 months to decide whether i should create an account or not.

Literally, everyone can start earning from day one and withdraw within a week of starting in Hive. Thus, this makes this place like a "the new land of opportunity if you wish" which leads me to the 2nd thing that i like a lot in here.

A Place for "Everyone"

Now as anyone can join Hive if they have an internet connection and maybe a VPN, this makes this place a new land for discovery. It doesn't matter what age you are, what gender you are, and where you are from, heck it doesn't matter if you can't speak English. There are people from all over the world here with different backgrounds and goals and thus likeminded people can hang out, build a community and enjoy some internet time together, and who knows there might be someone here on Hive with the same mindset as you who is from the same town as you!

Income Stream

Now besides that everyone may say the number 1 reason that everyone joined Hive is money. We all came for that and to be honest, because the vast majority of us either made close to nothing or some spare money, we remained here for the community and the fun.

No matter the reason we stayed or are in Hive, it's a fact that it can provide many different income streams. You can earn from posting, curating, commenting, playing games, heck you can even hodl and earn that way as well!

Thus, it provides endless opportunities to people which is awesome. Thus, it can attract a broader audience. Some people may only like playing some games here and guess what just by doing that they can earn money. Others may like to interact with others, sharing their thoughts freely and thus use Hive as a blog and social media platform that will reward them, something that FB or Instagram doesn't do.

Also note, that even though the majority of people doesn't earn much, in some countries, even 1$-2$ may help them with groceries, bills, medicines and such making Hive a great way to help people and make their lives a bit easier.

3 Things i Hate About Hive

Structure/Front

Now let's start with the bad. This is something that i don't quite have a solution to myself but it annoys me a bit. The structure of Hive and the way the fronts are built are a bit hard to navigate. Even if you use fronts like LEO, PEAKD and such that i use and make my experience better still there is chaos in there.

Now i may not have a lot of time but when i had i used to manually do everything, like voting, commenting and such. I was in the top 10 spots in terms of commenting for many weeks. It was quite hard to find quality posts and in general to search for posts, it would take hours. Even if you decided to let's say follow people, after a while your starting page/Friends page would be chaotic. You may don't agree with me but with threads in LEO i find it more chaotic than ever to follow posts/talks/dialogs/comments and such.

Abusers

This is my number one issue here. Even though we are not like Steemit and i remember the days back when abuse was everywhere and that was the reason Hive was created. Sadly, there are people that taking advantage of Hive and all of us but in more clever ways than before.

The main way they do that is through the proposal system where thousands of dollars are basically spent on ideas that are complete garbage, and offer close to zero value to Hive. In case you don't know what i am talking about think of it like this:

Let's say there is a specific fund that helps people utilize their ideas. Someone has an idea, he/she makes a "detailed" proposal and if he/she gets an ex amount of upvotes (which as you guessed it depends on the voting power) then the idea passes. So if I and 2-3 friends hold an enormous amount of Hive and another friend makes a proposal of creating a Hive doll and giving it to people outside for free, asking for 200$ per day as his salary plus an additional 100$ per day for the costs, we can pass it through.

Then he can pay a Chinese factory 1000$ to create the dolls for him and ship them and the rest is pure profit. All of the money though is money that each and every single one of you loses as there is a certain amount of Hive and HBD that will ever exist. Also there is no strict rules that if you don't have the said results in 6 months or a year you will lose the funding or you have to give back an x amount.

Curation and Lack of Activity

Finally, curation and in general lack of activity is a huge issue as many quality writers will never be discovered and earn more rewards. Don't get me wrong there are some curation teams that do excellent work and each creator needs to interact more with people but still, it is quite hard to be seen and get by.

Due to that and lack of free time (which i am guilty of as well), some people have set curation trails automatically that vote certain people if they are away. Although that is awesome still the problem continues. For example, if this exact post were copied and pasted and published by a well-known person here in Hive and someone who is less "known" than me, you could literally see the earnings of the same post based on the person to vary from literally 0.1$ all the way to 40$-50$.

Some ways to solve this are to have more curators, to try and vote manually as much as we can and i talk about myself here as well, cause i am quite inactive and to focus on interacting with others. When i had time was here in Hive daily and interacting with at least 10 people per day, i was earning 100$-300$ monthly! Being active is a hugeeee way of increasing your hive presence to earn better rewards!

I ended up writing a lot i see but you only live once! I would love to hear your thoughts and ofc please your 3+3 things you like and hate! I am quite curious!

i was earning 100$-300$ monthly!

I feel like too many always think in terms of $.

Right now I'm earning more hive than I've probably ever have in author rewards but I don't think of it as "oh it's just $10". Yet you don't hear the people who earned post rewards before the pump to $3 mention how their 100 posts before that got them 1000-3000 hive which by then was $3000-9000 had they sold it at the right time.

People need to stop thinking in terms of $, similar to how the saying goes "you're not in profit or loss unless you do the opposite trade", if you just hold and wait the price of hive could be anywhere between $0 and $10.

I'm pretty sure that's why peakd doesn't show the $ rewards and people need to think more in terms of how big of a % of the daily inflation did I get compared to others.

Totally get and agree with what you said but from what i've seen as well at the end of the day for the vast majority it all comes down to $. That's why i have never powered all these years because i believe in Hive or at least i want to believe. People need to think wider!

The point i was trying to make with that statement though was that even if your content is amazing, the key element that will separate you from others and at the end of the day make you earn some money, is to interact with other people. This is one of the "hidden" keys let's say for success in here!

Btw thanks a lot for stopping by!
