Come join me on a tour of an unintended garden area

Ah, the question everyone must have on their minds these days, even more than what goes on with the war between Russia and Ukraine, even more than when Vikings: Valhalla will have a second season: what has Fen done about his shitty fences that keep being rampaged by the neighboring cattle.

And the answer is… nothing.

Well, not nothing. You see, I’ve been making cordage and tying up new posts here and there, fixing the ties on old ones but it is a slow process, so it really adds up to nothing as any four legged fiend can make it’s way inside without breaking a leg.

Were I a well organized elf with a high concentration stat I would have no trouble doing significant progress in a day or two. But those are not my main traits, my skills are many and they all need to be put to use every day so the time available for each one is very limited.

This is all due to the fact that I was raised as a scholar elf, not a wood elf. Therefore my body is fragile and prone to quick tiredness. I would have hoped that after two years of living in the woods I would have become stronger but it would seem that a couple of orbits around the sun cannot fix what decades of being a repressed, nerdy, screen-addicted, parent-pleasing miscreant caused to my limbs.

Hahaha, don't take me seriously, I'm just writing like this for fun

the fence must go on.jpg

This, as you obviously know from following each and every one of my posts with unwavering loyalty - so much that you know this place as well as me -, is the fence to the minigarden outside the house which has survived by miracle to the attacks of all manner of beasts. This was never intended to be a productive area but keep adding the leftover seeds of a batch here and there and a garden will grow of it’s own will.

Ah, but you can’t see jack from there can you. Come along, come along, let me show you from up close what grows ‘ere. It ain’t much but it’s not as if we have much to do today.

We actually DO have a lot to do today… But nevermind that, there’s always ways to split the time in thinner threads so that it’s navigation might be endless and productive at the same time. Oh, don’t tell me you’ve never heard of time magic?

You better get used to these things, I’ve been holding back all these years but not anymore. No more faking a perfectly rational person you can take to dinner with your family. From now on, you want me to be your secret. No, definetly not your sex secret. More like the secret alien you keep in your basement so that the goverment won’t find it, that kind of secret is good.

make their eyes curious will you dear.jpg

First step into the garden... what's that you say? There's only grass? Watch your step please, you almost stepped on a redcurrant.

redcurrant.jpg

Yes, she's a young one with no fruit yet but give her some time. She was almost dying when she arrived here but now she's looking a lot better.

Let's take another step forward.

this is a good broad bean pic lad finally.jpg

Now you see all that which looked like grass where actually broad bean plants.

What's that over there? On the flower, look!

the ant and the flower.jpg

Forgive my excitement but we don't see many ants around these parts. Since I'm a lifeform diversity freak I just can't hide it when a new creature appears and adds to the different expressions of Life that inhabit this place.

This deserves some virtual world enhancement:

lets make it artsy ok.jpg

Moving forward...

peppermint, now you know the english name.jpg

Gotta keep your eyes peeled here, this is not a good place for the distracted. Right by your foot, peppermint. And there's plenty more so tread lightly. Or don't. I've already thought about it, that's why I have these friends around here:

my beautiful thorns.jpg

Yeah, who grows thistle in their garden? I do. So many good things about thistle and one of them is making sure you don't walk around stepping on everything mindlessly. But better yet, it stops the animals from doing this and protect the garden. It's also good for eating when you take out the thorns. Unfortunately, this is not the sylimarin rich variety which would be useful for every time I get poisoned by mushrooms.

the carrot stands tall but is hard to appreciate among the green.jpg

Getting carrot seeds is not for the impatient ones. It needs two years for a carrot plant to give off their seeds, which means two years of weeding or at least keeping the grass from taking over. Among all the green it's hard to appreciate but the work of patience is finally nearing it's blooming point.

let's look at the cosmos inside a flower for a moment.jpg

We've only taken a few steps and so much yet to see! I don't think we will be able to cover all of it on this post, but maybe, just maybe, if the love is felt there will be another for the rest!

this is very different than what i see on a daily basis.jpg

For now let's take another step forward.

Can you tell me what you see?

what do you see.jpg

Let's see if you got it right:

a marvelous association.jpg

I really like how these plants associated and built their own little community.

goosegrass.jpg

Goosegrass growing all over. I've noticed that when it grows in shade in has a very nice flavor, contrary to the more sun exposed counterparts. This is a nice herb to detoxify your blood and a strong diuretic, so as @riverflows once suggested to me, don't consume before going to sleep or you'll be peeing all night.

the lettuce invasion.jpg

You know things are starting to improve soil-wise when you throw seeds and say: "whatever, do what you want" without any caring for giving them right conditions and they all grow nice and healthy. Such is the case of these lettuces which I've been transplanting to other places and there are still many.

Well this has been a lot. We only walked three steps and look at all there was to see. As I said before, maybe and just maybe I will show the rest, or maybe keep it a secret like the alien in your basement.

Is there anything on your mind? Whatever you feel at this moment, please, feel at ease to express it. Get me inspired with your thoughts and emotions. I’ll take it into consideration for my next spinning of the yarn.

A pleasure to hang out with you, be sure to come back some other time 🌿

Informative and interesting post! And my takeaway is to wonder if you get poisoned by mushrooms often enough to know how to cure it.

Love seeing the life grow!

Well I've already got a few sour stomachs and one major poisoning under my belt, which I still gotta do a post about because I posted about the mushrooms and how I preserved them for future consumption. Turns out they weren't edible and I spent four days in bed with fever and stomach cramps. Anyways, part of the rewilding process to make such mistakes I guess!

What a fun post to read! Gardening wise I'm totally with you: throw seeds around wildly and see what comes up. A bit of tough love does wonders in the long run. The humorous way you present it deserves its own recognition.

I love a wild garden, that's when you know what veg will grow well on your land. It looks super productive to me and quite a nice looking fence and all. Everything looks so lush and green, which makes me very happy.
