Comfort zone: July 11 2023

As 12 o’clock approaches and my lunchtime is about to start, I suddenly have an urge not to go for my walk. Rebel. Break the healthy habit I’ve created and stayed with for months now.


Do you ever find yourself in a similar situation?


I couldn’t count if I wanted to, the amount of instances when I broke a healthy habit, because of an urge like this.

  • an urge to smoke,
  • an urge to skip meditation,
  • an urge to skip a walk,
  • an urge to eat some crap rather than a healthy meal,
  • an urge to carry on sleeping, despite already having a healthy amount of sleep,
  • an urge to not write.

Even one instance of listening to that ‘urge’ and a good, healthy habit that took us days, weeks, months or years to create, using our own sweat, willpower and commitment can disappear into the abyss.

Those urges come from our subconscious mind. It’s role is to keep us safe. Our comfort zone is our safety and to create a new, healthy habit we need to push past that comfort zone and do things that at first feel unfamiliar and maybe a little uncomfortable, hence why they’re outside of our comfort zone.


Lucky bee 🐝 on that flower I captured yesterday. It hasn’t got a brain, let alone 2 brains - conscious and subconscious that are constantly at odds with each other. It has an instinct that tells it to fly out of the hive as soon as sun is up and collect the nectar and pollinate the flowers all day long.

Us, humans are so very difficult with those 2 minds. While conscious mind decided to walk every day for the overall health and fitness benefit, the subconscious one wants to keep us in the ‘safety’ of our office chair, where there are no cars driving by and no injuries to happen.

What subconscious mind might not consider is that past that comfort zone are beautiful flowers, abundance of vitamin D from the sun and maybe a beautiful, busy bumblebee that wants to pose for us.

Sometimes I’d just like to be a bee. No thoughts that are in conflict with each other, no decisions to make, just instinct that tells me what to do.

That’s not my reality for this lifetime though. So I observed the urge and went for a walk anyway. One less time that I gave a random thought a power to control my mind and those little victories add up 🥰

I amazed to see why that bee 🐝 didn't fly when you captured it although it had round eye's too 😹

Lol 😂 Depends how much nectar there is available in the flower and if you move too much 😉 Sometimes I just sit there waiting for it to fly from one flower to another, until it sits there for longer and sometimes I’m lucky to catch it first time 😁

It is the reason we are being told to leave our comfort zone while getting that healthy and good habits done. Sometimes, we have a different urge wanting us to do something other than developing those good habits and once we give in, those habits starts going into the abyss till it goes down completely.
