WHAT CONTRIBUTES TO YOUTH CRIME
Crime is increasing day by day in our society, and most of this crime are said to be mostly committed by the youths although I disagree to some extent (I have my reasons), but that would be a topic for another day.
The rate of crimes committed by youth is increasing especially in most countries in the continents of Africa. There are so many reasons for this, people blame the government, some their parents and others the youth themselves for not being lazy and not helping their way out, whatever that may be this is a serious situation and it needs serious attention, as they say youths are the leaders, father's and mother's of tommorow.
There are so many things that contributes to this youth crime in our society, but in this post I want to deal on one of the major cause of this crime.
Peer pressure
This is one of the major problem in our society today. Adolescent period of a child is a very important stage of a child, it is a period where the child thinks he can fo whatever he wants and feels her/ she is independent, and when the parents are not there to control this and put things in order their friend who are also feeling independent we be the one to dictate for them and this end up in a bad way.
Peer pressure has really affected our youth, this sense of belonging. I'm from Ghana but resides in Nigeria, and you find peer pressure everywhere, there is this mantra that is popular among the youths which says what you mates are doing follow dem do, and many youths tend to interpret this in a bad way and they never see the good part of that statement, this has increased and promoted cyber crimes known as Yahoo and Yahoo plus(The ritual part of it*) in Nigeria here, drug abuse, prostitutions , cultism and other illegal activities.
At the age of 17 you will see a young thinking of how to buy the latest phone and drive the latest car, because they see their friend doing it, and they are ready to do what it takes without thinking about the repercussions, cyber crimes has increased because of this peer pressure and these days parents are encouraging this crime which is very sad. Drug abuse is a no go area youths are now engaging in a serious taking of drugs.
The only way out of this for the parents and the right authorities to help in stopping this and not promote it. Some of this youths has gone astray, if there is a strong punishment for this crime then the youth can think twice before engaging in this crime.
Parents should watch out for the kind of friends that their children keeps.
I know there are so many cause of youth crime, but I think peer pressure is one of the major cause.
Hope you enjoyed post, contributions are welcomed on the comment box.
Thank you for reading
Parents also play a very much important role in controlling youth crime for if a child is well brouth up, then there is a low chance of such children going astray.
thanks for sharing this wonderful content dear friend.
Peer pressure has a very great impact on our lives and most Youths are not careful enough to notice this pressure. Hence it is easy to be persuaded to committing crimes
Man you are right oh… The feeling to belong has a way of pushing one to do things he doesn’t do. I know what my eyes have seen with guys here and that’s why I try to avoid friends who does online fraud because they live expensive and anyhow. Before I get pressured into their lifestyle, I say make I push myself away.
That's the best thing to do bro, the oppression is too much
The government should really help in minimizing this crime if not I don't know what the future holds.
It is amazing how at such a young age people are already feeling the urge to own cars and buy the latest phones. And all these are just so that they can show off to people and make themselves look cool. We are heading towards dark times indeed if this act is allowed to go on.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
peer pressure only has its maximum effect on children who lack acceptance and appreciation from their parents. So they look for it somewhere else. It is filling a void that seem to exist inside them by trying to be as good or better than their peers as a way to gain acceptance and recognition.
So, in a way, peer pressure is a product of poor parental upbringing.
