CHILDHOOD ACCIDENT

Were you a daredevil as a child? Tell us about a time when you did something stupid or dangerous before the age of fifteen that didn't go your way, or you got away with it against all odds. Give us the scenario, what happened to you, and what resulted from your actions. Bonus points for humor and your own photos.

Certainly when we are children, innocence is present at all times and we do not recognize with certainty what is good or bad, at least we repeat it thousands of times or we live the experience, leaving that episode as a great learning experience. It is worth mentioning that I do not have personal photographs of the anecdote I am going to relate due to the seriousness of the case, which was an innocent accident that happened to me back in the 80's because of my sweet tooth, leaving this experience photographed in my memories and that I will try to detail for a better understanding.

I was about 6 years old and together with my family composed of mom, dad and three siblings we lived in Jardines del Valle, a popular area of the city of Caracas - Venezuela. My parents after many attempts to support themselves economically decided to start their own home cooking business by renting a mobile home in a busy avenue, thinking that there they would have the possibility of generating good sales.

There they both prepared and sold breakfast and lunch from Monday to Friday, to take care of the four of us they decided to take turns and play with their schedule, very early in the morning they would prepare breakfast at home and my father would take it to sell and would go ahead in the business to prepare the other food, While my mother took my older brother and me to school, at that time at home she took care of the younger ones, organizing the other groceries, after picking us up from school we all went to the store together and that is how she took care of us, arriving just in time to prepare the lunches with my father.

THE TERROR DRINK

They had in that space many vivieres, among those sodas of many flavors and for me it was a delight the apple soda, its color and sweet bubbly flavor caused me much pleasure. One day I wanted to help them to organize the soft drinks inside the caravan and I saw a bottle with the characteristics of my favorite soft drink and without asking permission I opened it and took it to my mouth, there I swallowed a sip making me want to spit and cough immediately and then I felt a strong dizziness.

In my poor state of consciousness I heard my mother screaming for help, she told my father: "the girl took gasoline," I remember I looked like a rag doll in their arms, I was weak, crying, coughing a lot and my throat was burning, my father gave me milk to drink in large quantities, I could not swallow it, I felt choked and I was spitting it out of my mouth and nose, making me nauseous.

I DON'T DRINK IT ANYMORE…

I remember that between so much terror and screaming I was bathed in liquids among that which came out of my entrails, there was a moment when I fell asleep, then I saw myself in my room lying on my bed bathed and with my pajamas on. It was not a dream, in fact I was at home and everything was calmer, I got out of bed to look for my mother, when she saw me she hugged me and checked me asking me how I was feeling and I told her: Well I don't drink milk or soda anymore! As I spoke I felt the smell of gasoline coming out of my mouth and that scared me making me cry, situation that my mom controlled by giving me candy and preparing jelly.

After that unpleasant experience I was not taken to the doctor, I believe that my parents with their home remedies knew how to do their job of resurrection with me. After all this, over the years I came to understand the saying "by the mouth the fish dies" since then I was left with the intolerance to cow's milk today I do not consume it neither liquid nor powdered its smell in any presentation and appearance arches me and produces me allergy, just like gasoline as soon as I perceive it causes me discomfort, I consume soda in very little quantity taking into account that of conscious eating and the damage that produces these industrialized products.

Here is one of my innocent childhood accidents thank you, @galenkp for such a nice suggestion this weekend

Hello @evev

This is quite a scary thing. I can understand why you now have such a strong aversion to gasoline and milk! I am glad you were ok.

Thank you beautiful it was terrible and although I think I have overcome it psychologically, I think my cells are still scared. Happy week! @andrastia🌻

Hi, @evev

Reading your story, brought back memories of a similar event that happened with my little sister.

We lived in a compound where houses faced each other and we usually played with the neighbors' kids. On this day, we came back home from school an hour earlier than our neighbors. My Mum had just arrived from the market where she bought foodstuff to make dinner. Kerosene was almost the cheapest way to provide heat for home cooking. So my mum had bought some kerosene to put into the stove.

Her mistake was that she put the kerosene in the pet bottle used for table water. I don't think my sister knew the difference between kerosene and table water. She had just come back from school and of course, being the playful girl she was, she was thirsty.

I came out of the house and I saw my sister with the bottle in her mouth, drinking gleefully. I screamed as I ran to her, pulling the bottle from her mouth. My mother who had heard me screaming came out and I narrated what I saw. My mum expertly put her finger down my sister's throat and induced emesis...

The next minute, all the kerosene she had drank was coming out of her mouth. A tin of milk after the whole ordeal put my sister to sleep and thankfully, it was the end of it. But the fear I felt that day was real. Seeing her gulp down kerosene like that made me really scared.

Wow your story strikes me, what a coincidence, children from their innocence do not realize the danger, accidents are like that, what remains on the part of adults is to be attentive to their care. I am glad for the happy ending. Greetings my friend @drceeyou 🌻

That child innocence... Puts them in lot of trouble...

Yet it is what a lot of adults need today...

What an irony.

Greetings to you too @evev my friend.

What a danger, thank God they were able to do what was necessary to prevent something worse from happening. What a scare and it is true that when we have unpleasant episodes with food we reject it and our body does not tolerate it. Thank you for sharing your experience.
