Packing Up

I keep seeing memes and comments about photographers having closets full different kinds of camera bags. Am I the only one who hasn’t bought one until today?

Technically I have one camera bag but it came with a set of speedlights and was meant for those. It’s really big, ugly and bulky, so I only rarely use it. I’m always changing bags and usually my camera gear is just tossed into any bag without much care. Hence my gear looks ”well loved.”

I’ve been meaning to get a camera bag insert that fits a good basic set of gear and can be easily transported. I finally got myself the Fjällräven Kånken photo insert in the bigger size, hoping I can fit two bodies (body bag eh eh) with lenses attatched in it. I obviously just eyeballed it and got lucky it can even fit one extra lens that is on the smaller side.

I’m heading to shoot out of town and overnight so I’m trying to figure out how the hell I’m gonna fit everything I need in one bag. I’m afraid I might need to carry everything while I shoot for a whole day, so I can’t be dragging on any extra baggage. Camera gear, laptop and all the chargers and cables always take up the majority of space, not much left for clothing, toiletries and snacks but I’ll figure it out.

my motto, if you dont take it, you can't use it!

Hahaha I knew I was a bit different! I usually opt for the least gear I can get away with, I hate even changing lenses, but obviously it depends on what you really need for the shoot.

im trying to travel lighter... I have a convertable car, which is really impractical for location shoots as I can't fit much in...

while I stil lhave loads of softboxes etc, I'm trying to use RGB LED panels for a lot of shoots now...

This made me also realise I have my camera bags than my wife has handbags. I'm a lucky man.

is that because you like bags, or because your wife doesnt spend fortunes on bags?

It is because my gear has slowly spread like a tumor to fill the study, then the lounge, then the house, and now there's probably a piece of camera gear in every room of the house because it doesn't all fit on one place.

It would be very handy to have a camera in every room, you never know what you need to capture! 😅

I've got four camera bags.

The other week, I got the last camera bag I'll ever need, a Pelican case with two layers. It fits all my strobes, flashes and lenses as well as my cameras. I'll need to make a post about it some day for a "whats in my kit..."

It is way too heavy at this point, but lucky its on wheels.

I will probably depack it for smaller shoots into my other bags when it is necessary to bring everything along to a shoot. lol.

That’s probably really nice if you are going to a shoot with your own car and don’t have to lug that thing around too much between A and B.

I'll bet you're telling that to yourself (and the misses maybe) now. I'm sure there will eventually follow another bag 😈

But pelican cases are very nice! Looking forward to that post and see whats inside yours😎
