Knitted Bra
A knitted merino wool bra for people who have cold tits, aka me.
I came across a trendy Scandinavian knitwear pattern maker duo called NakedKnit and immediately loved their simple designs. They specialise in cashmere bras, bralettes and tops.
I bought their Everyday Bra pattern a few months back but only now got around to making it. They highly recommend to make the bra from cashmere so you won’t get itchy tits, but I decided to so a sort of practise knit from merino yarn I already had. When ever I knit from a new pattern, the first time is rarely perfect so I didn’t want to end up wasting expensive cashmere on something that I wasn’t sure would turn up amazing.
I thoroughly enjoyed knitting from this pattern, using a 2mm needle, first in the round for the band that is folded double, and then back and forth for the cups. It was pretty easy to follow and a surprisingly fast project to do, took me a few days. It was a great practise to use Sunday merino yarn because I needed less than a 50gram skein of yarn for my little tits so the material cost comes down to about 5 euros, a welcome change after doing big knits over the winter.
In my not-so-humble opinion this bra turned out really nice and wearable. I’ll definitely wear it as a top for summer. If my tatas don’t have a problem with the material, I’ll make another pair from the same yarn, doing a few little changes for the sizing and overall being more of a perfectionist the second time. I could definitely turn this pattern into a bralette too, it really is a great pattern to have in my library.

How does it feel? Is it actually itchy? Do you think you'll make a version with cashmere now that you've seen how this one turns out? It looks great obviously, but it kinda does look like it might be a little itchy after a while...
I can feel it but I wouldn’t say it’s itchy, at least now. On a different day it might be because I’m sensitiveee. I’ll definitely make a cashmere version at some point no matter what.

Thank you! It’s just a very dear hobby, I make knitted items for myself, family and friends :) Nobody really sells hand knitted items because the hourly cost is too great for an average consumer.

The knitting world is really changing and there are more and more really on-trend patterns available, and not only the traditional and sometimes super outdated designs.
That looks really well done. I cannot make clothing for the life of me, but I can imagine it must be a good feeling to have it completed and comfortable. Hopefully it doesn't cause the itchies! Oy. Maybe a nice cashmere one would be nice for the winter.
Just out here being prepared for a financial crash, closed borders and shortages on everything. I’ll still wear cute things when we are nearing an apocalypse or have a new ice age 😝

Merino wool is supposed to be very good a wicking moisture away. So in the summer, your tatas should stay cool and dry. In the Winter, they'll stay warm and dry.
It's practical and you saved a lot of money versus buying a bra.

Wool in general has that ability and that is why it’s my favourite material to wear. I wear my favourite cashmere sweaters throughout all four seasons. I also love my merino underlayers for winter. I take good care of shaving my own hairy limbs but then pile on the hairs from all the other hairier and fluffier animals 😝

I love it when patterns are easy to follow. Every time I view one of your projects it motivates me even more to get knitting again. This is so cute! Cashmere is sooooo expensive and I’m a perfectionist, so I want to be sure my first time doing a cashmere bra turns out amazing. I just ordered 50 grams of this 😍 Thank god I have small boobs…

i am curious, do you prewash the yarn? I hear it helps wiht scratchiness.

With all due respect, that sounds absolutely ridiculous. What you do is wash the knit when it’s done and you can add a wool conditioner. 😊
Ahhh, not being one to knit, I have zero idea, I simply was mentioning what I have heard. She makes her own from her farm, so perhaps that is why she has to prewash?
Ah yes well obviously that is very different, sure she has to wash the yarn at some point in the process.
Interesting! You always do beautiful work @eveuncovered. I wonder how much stretch will happen over time since there is no clasp involved. Of course, sheep's wool (depending on the breed) is elastic but will it be enough to keep the original shape? Hmmmm.....

Knitwear does stretch, no matter what kind, that is just the nature of the construction of the stitches. You do have to prepare for that and knit a smaller size, and sometimes that is very hard to predict. This was sort of a test knit and I’m already making a cashmere one that is a bit smaller. What you can do though if the wool knit stretches is to wash it in hot water and if you are brave enough, throw it in a drier too, buy you might end up with a doll sizes version id you don’t know what you are doing 😆
Yeah, I needle felt quite a bit but not the wet felting in some years. Alpaca (of which I have spun many skeins and LOVE) doesn't have much elasticity to it. I haven't worked with cashmere. It's a bit cost prohibitive for me and there are so many breeds of sheep's wool to learn from and play with while I spin.
