Back to Basics
The weather is truly getting cold and I noticed I have a shortage of wool socks that I actually want to wear. I have all sort of colourful patterned socks but I mostly wear neutrals so I need more everyday socks.
A while back Novita came out with a collection of beautiful tweed colourways in their most classic yarn that is best suited for socks and mittens. I stocked up on the natural white and grey immediately to make sure I won’t miss out.
I had some spare time at work while waiting for the machine to run a cycle so after one day spend on my phone, I took my knitting needles and a skein or yarn with me. Wool socks are super easy to me because I’ve done a million pairs and a simple basic one needs no pattern or much consentration. I tied a canvas bag into a fence thingy for easy access and to protect my yarn from all the oil and dirt around.
It was no surprise that once I got into my knitting, the boss finally figured out another task for me to do between the cycles and I only got to do a few centimetres. I continued at home and with a thick yarn and a basic pattern, it only takes a couple evenings to finish and I’ll have my cute new little socks to wear.
I find knitting socks pretty boring these days because I have gone up to the big league of knitting sweaters but I’m always happy to have a brand spanking new pair.
Oh cool, you've started on my socks!
Next up: wool trunks.
Sorry for my late reply, I've been clearing space in my drawer for my new woollen trunks.

Nice. That's on my to-do list, as well. I love the portability of socks and I LOVE double pointed needles.
I read your comment right after waking up, thinking to myself ”well yes of course socks are portable when you put them on your feet and walk around” 😂😅 But yes, I agree, easy to throw in a bag to work on them where ever. I think it’s quite rare to like double pointed needles but I do too!
The first item I knitted was a wide striped hat on double pointed needles. I taught myself how to knit from books since there was no youtube back then in the mid-90s. Someday I want to try to knit two socks at the same time. It's a goal!
You had no-one to teach you!? I could not imagine having to learn knitting just from books, I’m so glad we now have Youtube where every single new technique can be seen. I learned the basics from mom, grandma and in elementary school.
You mean with the magic loop technique? I hated that! I always do socks and mittens with two separate sets of needles and yarns and work a section at a time on each.
Not sure about the name of the two sock method. It is in an old Spin Off magazine. I’ll let you know when I find it.
I would like to learn this weaving design, it is very nice and interesting how beautiful finishes are achieved. I like it, very good work
Just go to youtube and search for ”knitting in the round” :)
