What a surprise I got!

Sometimes, when cycles in our lives come to an end, we think that everything is over and that the people who lived with us forget us with time. I say this because I retired on April 11 of this year and I had not seen most of my co-workers for five months.

As you can see I wrote in the past tense, but, later on you will understand the reason for this way of writing.

It is true that this stage of your life gives you a calm and peace that is appreciated, but so is the fact of having that social interaction with your coworkers, whom you come to consider your family.

Coinciding with my fifth month of retirement, my friends from work invited me to an activity and told me that all the ingredients were there to have a good time. I assure you that at that moment I didn't care what was available for the activity, if it was too much or too little.

What I can assure you is that I felt an immense joy because I could see that my co-workers had not forgotten me.

What a joy it was to see people I had not seen since my retirement. It is true that you can make a space in your schedule to see each other, but the complications of life and how difficult it is to get things done, get you involved in that vicious circle and you get consumed in solving the basic things of living.

I can't say that we have the worst conditions in our country, but I can assure you that the situation is very difficult and getting anything basic costs time and money; if you get it at all.

But well, we can say that for the times we live in, the things that my colleagues carried were many and varied. On the one hand, there were the logistical assurances that included snacks and lunch, on the other hand there was the beer that for the high temperatures that we have in this part of the planet comes in handy.

Something that can not miss at any party is the music and it was guaranteed, so I had what I needed to throw my aisles. However, the best and most abundant thing was the human warmth and the desire to have a good time that we all had.

I must tell you that I danced and enjoyed myself like a little girl celebrating her fifteenth birthday. I don't know if I ate the most or if I danced more than anyone else. But, one thing I can assure you: I had the most fun and I was the most grateful for this surprise party that my former co-workers threw for me.

It was an incredible evening and I had a lot of fun because I was able to enjoy a lot of music and dance like I hadn't done for a long time. When I returned home I was 15 years younger. It must be that positive energies, friendships, being surrounded by people who do you good and how much fun we had is a remedy for the soul.
