A luxury for these times: a cup of espresso coffee or a Cuban-style Cortaito

This is my first post in this community. I confess that I do it with some trepidation because all the publications I have seen have an exquisite photographic quality and visits to very nice coffee shops where they tell stories related to coffee that I have fallen in love with.

I have been waiting for the moment to publish in this community, but I have not been able to. A few days ago I was near one, but when I asked for the price of a coffee I left the place in a panic because my pension as a retired person cannot afford such a luxury.

However, yesterday I gave myself a luxury and I wanted to share it with the members of this community, because of all the ways in which I consume coffee this is the one I like the most and I had not been able to do it for a long time.

Here is this little story

After the Covid-19 pandemic the world has been plunged into a crisis that has affected all countries, some more than others. In our case the crisis has deepened in such a way that there is a generalized shortage of products and, among them, milk and coffee do not escape from it.

I say this because before the pandemic problem it was common for me to drink a Cuban-style espresso coffee or as we say a Cortaito because, besides liking it very much, it is the way I can better tolerate coffee due to my gastric ulcer.

I confess that I had lost the notion, the taste and the way to imagine this combination of drink. I thought it would be a long time before I would taste again a cup of black coffee with powdered milk that we humble people call Cortaito.

Well, yesterday I received a gift that I did not expect and it was a tremendous surprise: I received a bag of powdered milk and the first thing that came to my mind was to make my favorite coffee and drink it with my husband when he came home from work.

The ingredients are basically the same as always:

Coffee, sugar, water and in this case, at the bottom of the cup I like to put the spoonful of milk.

The method of preparation is very simple:

The coffee pot is assembled with the water and the coffee, when it boils I add the sugar and serve it in the cup that already has the milk in the bottom. I like to do it this way, so that when the coffee gets hot it mixes with the milk and gives that dark light tone that I like so much and that nourishes me.

When my husband arrived he noticed that in our afternoon cup of coffee routine there was something unusual about my countenance. He couldn't contain himself and asked me why I was so overtly happy. When I told him the reason for my joy he was happy for me and we sat down for coffee. To him, as always black coffee, pure or American, mine with milk, Expresso or Cortaito.

The conversation of the day tasted better to me, I was able to tell my wife the things in which I invested my time, because, as a retiree I manage my time in the best possible way and to my liking; while he told me about the activities carried out in his work center and the projects for the next week. As always this day was presided over by two cups of coffee, which in this case were of different preparation and flavor.

So much for my simple story with this cup of coffee, which in these times is a luxury that we cannot afford, but it is worth it.
