Introduction

This guide is designed to show you an unbiased feature set comparison of blockchains in the discussion. The below table shows you the comparison points between the two blockchains.

Syscoin (SYS) Ethereum (ETH)
Syscoin was launched in 2014, as a merge-mined coin with Bitcoin, in version 2.1, it added the Network Enhanced Virtual Machine feature to become compatible with Ethereum. Ethereum's whitepaper launched in 2013 and it's mainnet was launched in 2015.
Syscoin has the total supply of 888,000,000 coins and has circulating supply of 626,250,314.29 coins. Ethereum has the circulating supply of 117,046,619 eth coins and has total supply of 365,186,415,050 coins.
Syscoin being a merge-mined project with Bitcoin, it makes use of the Proof of Work consensus. Ethereum's current consensus is Proof of Work but it's future upgrades are going to be Proof of Stake.
Syscoin is expected to achieve 4 million TPS in it's phase two with zkRollups. Ethereum is currently has the 9 to 45 TPS rate based on current network load.
Syscoin has a block confirmation time of around 13 sec. Ethereum has the block confirmation time of 20 sec.
Syscoin has Network Enhanced Virtual machine support which makes it compatible to Ethereum virtual machine and it supports smart contracts too. Ethereum supports smart contracts and multi layered protocols for dApps, NFTs and the token development.
Syscoin has relatively low transaction costs and faster speed. Ethereum's current network load shows it's higher transaction fees and slower transaction speed.
Syscoin has a decentralized governance through foundation and it's current structure has a system which requires vote for funding, implementation and expansion of the chain. Ethereum has it's own foundation which has a decentralized governane based structure for taking chain specific decisions on funding, network infrastructure and development.
Syscoin currently is available on Trezor, Paliwallet & Metamask and is being sold in many exchanges. Ethereum has much wider acceptance in web, desktop and mobile wallet apps and it is also available on almost every exchange for trade.
Syscoin's intended use case is to find the balance between both Ethereum and Bitcoin blockchain to serve the consumers. Ethereum has always been multi-utility blockchain with it's layer 1 and layer 2 solutions for various consumer dApps, NFTs, smart contracts and DeFi.

Syscoin (SYS) or Ethereum (ETH) - Which one to choose?

Syscoin isn't trying to replace Ethereum or Bitcoin. In fact it's merge mined with bitcoin so it's pretty much mined by same miners who mine bitcoin. So the power consumption stays practically low to zero.

Syscoin also has the compatibility with EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) for it's NEVM architecture. So it's not trying to replace Ethereum either. It's compatibility with EVM can open up for a potential Bridge between the two chains as well.

Depending on your use case and the use case for the community, you can choose between either Ethereum or Syscoin.
