Metaverse & Blockchain Games - What to Expect in 2022

Since last year, new metaverse and the blockchain games under Metaverse are being released. A lot of such metaverses are releasing NFTs, reward based games and the marketplaces of their own.

As these metaverses trying hard to establish themselves, it is getting harder to judge each of them on the basis of consumer benefits. Each of them have their own benefits and the issues, so finding the right metaverse & it's gaming ecosystem is a bit tough.

So what can you expect to be releasing in 2022 in the world of Metaverses?

Pay to Play Games, NFTs & Metaverse

Axie Infinity, Karastan and many other games have created a new system of monetization to sustain development and marketplace efforts. You have to buy the in-game NFT item before you can use them in metaverse or game battles.

Using the items or characters within such games would slowly improve their value as it gets level up. Once they reach a certain level and get the value that the market needs, they can be sold for a higher price.

All of this would require you to buy certain items before you can play. Expect more games making use of this method in their games and metaverses.

Pay to Own Games, NFTs & Metaverse

NFT ideology has created this mindset of owning the digital asset. Games and metaverses like Upland, Sandbox has been already pushing this mindset of owning the land in the metaverse.

You get to own those lands, use them within the limits of metaverse, and create scarcity around them. As the scarcity improves the market demand, the price of land increases.

Pre-Launch Advantage

A lot of presale and the prelaunch purchase power adds certain advantage in the games and the metaverse. Where buying the land would force the new upcoming players to burn money in order to make further moves. Some games would get expensive after the launch, so pre-launch can be cheaper.

This model relies a lot on acquiring the funding before the game is launched. It favors both the developers and the consumers who want early mover advantage. I see a lot of growth in this space too.

Micro Transactions

You just can't buy one item and forever expect to churn into the game. A lot of games will add the gatekeeper and force you to pay a small amount for buying a certain set of the items.

Microtransactions and the medium level transactions will increase in many metaverse and the blockchain games in order to keep the ecosystem moving ahead. There is a lot of chance of growth for many games in this format.

Mainstream Entertainment Brands

Don't be surprised if Disney, marvel, DC, and many other studios get into the metaverse and start their own blockchain based world where you and your kids would be burning money on owning some limited time sale items.

Compared to decentralized projects, established brands and the studios have more control of sales. More people knowing those brands would invest in them.

Real-world Use Cases

There is a chance that upland like metaverse can also mimic the real-world sales of real estate and can be used to cover real life transactions into such type of the metaverse worlds.

I think there is a lot to explore in this space and I am pretty sure at least 1 project may jump in the metaverse concepts that link to the real world and make money off them.

Things to Note in Upcoming Metaverse Ecosystems

No matter how much a metaverse claims to be decentralized. You may expect the centralized aspect of it in the marketplace side. You would also see regular artificial price boosting through celebrity or group opinion manipulation to boost the price of such metaverse. We may also see a rise in the pay-to-play model manipulated in advance.

We don't have much control over those variables as well as how those metaverse, games and NFTs may work out. All that we can do is play by the system and try to mint out of that experience.

Conclusion

By the time we reach 2023, there will be enough metaverses that can financially support the gamers or even help the creators of various types to mint out of the time being spent on such metaverses. I will come back and check next year to see how much of my speculation turns out to be true.
