Time To Revise Your Security Level

At this point I guess I can consider myself lucky. Even though it's been stressful to see the latest events, knowing we have Hiveans stuck in the war zone, I at least have the time to put my things in order. The most important has been to put my finances in order, figure out a plan in case the sh*t hits the fan, then I have made a list with the things I would take with me, just in case and today it was the time to update, organize and put my passwords in order.

In case of a catastrophe like the one we are having in Europe, the most important thing, besides dodging the bullet (literally in this case) is to be able to communicate with the outside (the war zone) world. These days have proven us (not that it has been needed), how important is to have channels of communication and access to vital information. There have been a lot of talks behind the scene, that could not take place publicly. Now imagine not having any device on you, or not having the passwords to use one. Even if you don't know what to do or who to turn to, you can ask someone to help as there's always someone who knows someone who could help.

The beauty of crypto is that you can have access to it anywhere in the world, as long as you have your keys. So even if you have to leave without a laptop, once you have access to one, you can get access to your funds. If you have any doubts, just look at those who are in this situation, unfortunately.

I know myself and there's a huge chance unfortunately, that I'm not alone in this situation. There are times when I register to a platform and choose a password that I think I can remember, which leads to not writing it down. Why would I as I can remember it, right? Big mistake.

The other reason I thought it would not hurt to review my passwords is security. We live in the digital era, everything is done online, which is great as it can save you from a lot of trouble and can also save you a lot of time, but in the same time you can be exposed to great risks.

To simplify things many platforms are using the log in with your social media accounts, which makes it more easier, but in the same time it makes it easier to hackers too, to get what they want. Do you know on how many platforms are you using your Facebook or Gmail credentials to log in? What if your Facebook or Gmail accounts gets hacked? To how many platforms will you be losing access?

Last year in November, my smartphone was preparing to die as the battery could not cope with the expectations. One evening I forgot to charge it and found it turned off in the morning. For security reasons, when a phone is turned off, bio-metric identification is also turned off and the actual password is needed. It took me two hours to find the password. I actually gave up at some point, I said I'd rather buy a new phone as it is needed anyway, but I also knew I could never be so careless to not write down the password. So it was a lesson for me, a wake up call to be more careful.

Have you checked your recovery account? Is it still set to Steemit or another party that you have no idea who they are? Just saying.

It's time for spring cleaning, better sooner than later. These are wake up calls that we don't have to ignore. We still have time to put things in order, so why not do it now. Procrastination has a huge price.
