Pine Parade

Pines are not unusual around where I live, they are part of the scene wherever you go. There's less in the city but if you really want to see a pine forest, enjoy the fresh air and pine scent, you can go to the mountains.

The variety we have here is endless and unfortunately I don't know the name of them all. Shame on me, for me each and every type is called pine, even though I know it's not right. Maybe it's time to learn more about them.

Midweek when I visited the park I saw these pine buds and could not walk past, without taking a few photos, while having a good look at them. I've never watched these buds from this close, although it is a time every year when these buds start growing.

Pine buds are not like any other buds, this is why I was surprised to see how these are growing. What you see in the photos is the way new branches and pine leaves are born and growing. The first photos is specially interesting as the leaves (pins) are already visible on that and in a week or two I suppose the res rest of the leaves will be out too.

On some of the photos you can see a small pine cone (or two) is visible. That is the seed-bearing organ. I'm used to those big ones that grow on the big trees. It may not be obvious from the photo as these are macro photos, but the size of that cone is about the same as a cherry, a smaller one.

I'd like to go back in a week or two to see how these are growing. Those new buds must bin nice when they open. Maybe do another photo shoot and try to identify what type of pine it is. I tried to run a search but there are so many similar ones that I'm not sure which one it is.

My Experience With Liketu

I've used Liketu a few times mostly for photographic content. Derangedvisions has a photo contest each week and one of the requirement is that you have to publish from Liketu in order to qualify. This week I wanted to enter the contest with my tulip photo shoot but had some pretty serious problems.

The first and most important photo was not visible after publishing and other photos were now showing as well. So I edited the post, rearranged the photos and posted it again. After that I had to realize the set of photos I had doubled and showed up twice in my post, while the first photo was not showing still. After editing the third time I had to find out there's only one set of photos on Liteku, but the other front ends were showing already three sets of photos.

Turns out you can't edit the photos in Liteku, the only option is to delete it, which is obviously not recommended as reposting the same content means spamming.

Today I'm having another try to see if it is working or I'll have the same faith again. Fingers crossed.
