It's Time For A Gardening Report

Today I'd like to show you where we are with gardening. It's been ages since my last gardening post, can't even remember when it was, but must have been in October or November last year.

This is a new gardening season, so come with me to show you what we have in the garden.

Let's start with the raspberries, which are flowering now. The truth it, I rarely see the raspberry flowers as they don't last for long. The flower is not a spectacular one, each one has a few white petals and that's all. This year I was at the right place the right time and here it is.

It's pollination time and last night I was fighting with the bees. They wanted to do their job and I wanted to take some photos. Thank God, I got out safe and was able to take some photos as well. So the raspberry is looking great so far, if nothing bad happens, we're going to have a lot this year.

Currants are looking good, in a month or a month and a half I think it's going to be harvest time. A bit more growing is needed, then ripening, if the weather will be suitable.

However, the leaves are showing sign of illness. After harvesting, we need to look for a solution, see what can be done to stop the illness. The truth is, these currant bushes are old, there's not much to expect from them.

The gooseberry is looking fantastic. This is a Dutch type and has some huge gooseberries, that remain green even after ripe but have a wonderful aroma.

Grapes are also looking good. We have at least four types, so when it comes to making wine, mixing multiple types can give you a nice aroma. Thank God, this year there was no frost or hailing, during flowering, so if no illness pops up, we're good.

I'm always saying that mother nature is the biggest and greatest artist, but here she must have had the wires crossed as this creature looks extremely ugly. This is the mulberry if you don't know, but don't worry as this is the first time I see the flower. It is ugly!!!! Ugly!!!! But, the good thing is, we're going to have mulberry.

This was the fun part, the fruits. Now come with me in the vegetable garden, to show you what we have there.

This is the place for the melon and honeydew. The seedlings are still small, so transplanting time is a bit delayed, but it's coming soon. We use these weed foils to stop weed growing. It's a very good method that saves you time and energy.

Six rows of beans, of different types. Beans can't be missing from the garden. Let's see how it goes this year. Last year, the sun was too strong and literally burnt the flowers, so the harvest was minimal. This morning I heard a specialist speaking at the radio and the lady told us it's recommended to use shading, as protection. Let's hope this year will be better. Although, with this climate change, each summer is hotter and hotter, drought is becoming permanent, so there's not much hope for improvement.

Strong sun is not the only enemy. Here snails had a party and made the leaves look like lace.

Tomatoes can also never be missing from the garden. We always have four or five types.

This year we have seven types, yes, 7 😂. My dad went a bit crazy this year, but i don't mind at all as each type has it's own use. I can't wait to have yellow cherry tomato, black and red cherry tomatoes on my breakfast plate.

Cauliflower!!! What else could it be? Cauliflower is a double edge sword as not every type of cauliflower I growing. We had years when we got nothing. Last year my dad got a type that is suitable for the soil, so now we're growing cauliflower for pickles.

That row that is without weed foil and it is watered, it is a row of gladiolus. We always have gladiolus in the garden and I hope I'll be here to show you some nice flowers when they open.

Peppers. One weed sheet is ten meters long, so you can imagine how many there are there. There are 9 types here.

Cucumber is also a must, each year. However, this year we only have one row, 10m long as we still have a lot of pickles from the previous years, not that I'm complaining.

Potatoes we have only one row as it's for summer consumption only.

Carrot and parsley is always a gamble. It's been years since we're experimenting with different seeds and get almost nothing. Most likely the soil is not suitable. This year we got some, which is a miracle, so I say thank you.

Onion and garlic. These two are always a must and thank God, each year we have plenty.

These can be consumed already. I had a white one and it was very tasty.

Kohlrabi 😍. I can't wait to have a cold one, raw, as a snack and for hydration. The other dish I love is stuffed kohlrabi with minced meat.

Celery, which I don't like, but we use it for tomato sauce and other dishes.

Savory is needed for pickles and cabbage soup as well. The good thing about savory is that is growing wildly, if the seeds remain in the ground.

Eggplants are also like playing the roulette. Most likely the soil is not suitable as sandy soil is needed, but worth a try to have some fresh, for an eggplant cream. The best eggplants are brought from the southern part of the country and we always buy the majority from the farmers market.

Dill is ready to be frozen, to have for the whole year. I use dill for squash stew.
