Cuptorul Lagunei Restaurant And Another Cheeky Thing

avatar

Today I'd like to invite you to visit the Cuptorul Lagumei restaurant, which translated to English means The Furnace Of The Lagoon, which is situated in Street Republicii 19, in Fagaraș.

Cuptorul Lagunei Restaurant And Another Cheeky Thing.jpg

It is situated in the city center, 3 minutes walk from the Făgăraș Citadel, which is the main tourist attraction of the city.

We wanted a place to eat, nothing fancy, just good food and good atmosphere, but I'd say we picked a good one by choosing Cuptorul Lagunei.

20230910_170743a.jpg

We set down at the terrace in front of the restaurant, which is basically on the sidewalk, but as the historical city center is closed to cars, it's safe and quiet. There are a bunch of restaurants, bistros, cafes there, so it's not difficult to choose.

The waiter came pretty fast, brought us the menu. After placing the order, I went inside to have a look around and take some photos as always, but first asked for permission.

20230910_173000a.jpg

I did not hide my intention, had my phone in my hand. In cases like this, I'm always ready to accept whatever response I get, but to my surprise, they welcomed me to take as many photos as I like and they were even happy I was interested in taking photos. So here it is the interior, which was impressive.

20230910_172846a.jpg

I loved the rustic and quite original design. There were some really cool artworks too, which gave the whole place a nice vibe.

20230910_173023(0)a.jpg

Tables were made of wood, the beams serving as lamps were quite an original idea.

20230910_172907a.jpg

There was this fireplace that in my opinion was something you don't see everywhere. Hand painted, nicely decorated.

20230910_172910a.jpg

In addition, there were a few old objects displayed, like this amazing clock and some old radios, to make the place look even more rusting and vintage.

20230910_173012a.jpg

Old photos and postcards are always a good idea if you want to remember the past.

20230910_170911a.jpg

I wanted to take a photo of this place mat, which was made of paper, because it had the history of the place. There was a bit of confusion as the restaurant is called Cuptorul Lagunei, yet the place mat and the napkins say Embacher house.

20230910_171738a.jpg

The explanation for that is that this place was the most famous during the interwar period, it was the confectionery, from where the Royal House of Romania itself procured its sweets. The name of the confectionery comes from the favorite confectioner of King Michael and the Royal Family, named Frideric Embacher. (from the place mat)

It's not the first place I see this place mat used, but the first that details the history of the place. I find it valuable as you can learn while waiting for your order to be served.

The place has been restored several times, but still kept the original architectural design.

20230910_172926a.jpg

Toilet doors are always object of amusement these days. Restaurants are racing each other in this matter, each one wants to be unique in this regard.

20230910_172938(0)a.jpg

It wasn't easy to take these photos as people were coming and going and I looked like a creep, but I took my chances as the doors looked not only funny, but nice as well. That old looking dark wood with the grid on it, framed with bricks was priceless.

20230910_171730a.jpg

The menu. The offer was not abundant, but they had the traditional dishes one would expect. It was late afternoon and I did not want to overeat, so I got a Viennese-style chicken schnitzel, with potato wedges and cabbage salad, which I love.

20230910_174054a.jpg

When I saw the size of the schnitzel ... I said oh boy. I did not want to overeat an they brought me a schnitzel the size of an elephant ear. The dish had a paprika sauce, which did not inspire any trust as these are usually spicy, so I swapped my paprika sauce with a white sauce, which was phenomenal.

20230910_174042a.jpg

This was a tripe soup, which I was told was good. I love tripe soup and always have one serving when I go to the restaurant, but as I did not want to overeat, skipped it. This is the only soup I don't make at home for the obvious reasons.

20230910_174045a.jpg

Pork with French fries and the white sauce I swapped mine with.

20230910_173119a.jpg

After lunch, I asked for a black tea as always, but they did not have any, so my next best option was a green one. I loved how they served the tea there. That teacup was so lovely. I got honey and sugar too, but I always have my tea with lemon only.

20230910_173122a.jpg

The cutlery as brought in those paper bags, which is not only nice but hygienic as well.

20230910_173259a.jpg

The tea was great, so I'm going to check where I can find this brand. Most likely it won't be cheap, but quality always comes first.

A few lines earlier, I was telling you how my schnitzel was too big and I did not want to overeat. What do you think happened?

20230910_175930(0)a.jpg

As soon as we started eating, this little cutie pie showed up at our table. Look at him! Just have a good look!

20230910_175934a.jpg

He was standing there, looking at us with those innocent eyes and his cute face. Now tell me honestly, how can you eat, when you see this cheeky thing looking at you? I knew right away who's going to help me finish my schnitzel 😂

20230910_181125a.jpg

First I gave him a piece of potato, but he was not interested. Then I gave him a big bite of schnitzel, which disappeared instantly. After that, he was only interested in me as he knew I have the yummy schnitzel on my plate. Needless to say he got like 40% of my schnitzel. I did not mind feeding him at all, as I knew I could eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, but his meals were not guaranteed, so better know he's fed. The good thing about him was he did not jump on us or bother us in any way, he was well mannered in this regard. He didn't have a collar, so I think he was a stray dog.

All in all, I liked the place a lot. Prices were ok for our budget, the food was good, the place looked good, the staff was very polite and they served us in time. I would recommend this place if you're in the area. If you visit the place, please look for this cutie pie and give him a few bites as he deserves it 😁

Even though I ate I'm craving meat 🤤.

The restaurant has its classic 90's touch, the statues are the stars of the place that stuff, how it's carved, it's just art 👌

I love the medieval yet modest look of the restaurant. They are often recognized as places with good food rather than those looking incredible on the inside but having way too fancy menu, lol

You have described the place well as that's exactly what it was. We had a look around and saw what people were serving, the place looked good, so we decided to have lunch there and did not regret it one bit. Fancy restaurants have their place and time, but this wasn't the time for that. I pinned the post to the map, in case someone needs advice when visiting Fagaras :)

I can't eat either with such a tender look asking me to share my food, the place is very beautiful and it's good that they have good service and prices, you can see that they take care of all the details and hygiene, the decoration is really very original and with that beautiful friend makes me want to come back.

Erikah, I really like the decor of the place... hahaha, I got a good laugh out of this doggy thing, the cutie pie, the way you name it is very funny.
I see that the place is spacious and has a lot of tables, it looks like a family business. I didn't quite understand about the paper tablecloth, why did it have another name. Maybe it is a kind of advertising for those who make these tablecloths?

I'm not sure if it's a family business, did not look like one. At this size you can't run a family business, you need employees. Especially that they are delivering as well. Delivery guys were coming and going all the time.

No, that's not it. The place, the building itself once was a confectionery, a famous one that delivered for the Royal House as well. The owner bought the building in 2020 and wants to keep the memory of the famous confectioner Embacher. Most likely they are not allowed to name the place Embacher, but use it on objects.

I took a photo of the place mat for you to read the whole story. I hope it's good enough quality.

I understood everything, Erikah. Thank you. Very interesting. Are the chocolates from Romania good? I am a chocolate fan!!!!

You're welcome. We have a huge variety and excellent quality chocolates. Back in the communist era, there was no chocolate in the shops, only occasionally if you were lucky but things have changed a lot after that. You can but top quality everywhere now.

With the look of the delicacies, I’m salivating already.😋 The interior is beautiful.🥰 The expression on the cuties is irresistible. My Eskimo use to give that anything she wanted us finish the food together 😂
