Castles, Churches, Fortresses, On A Smaller Scale

Today I'm going to show you the rest of the photos I took at the Miniature Transylvania Park. Finally I've managed to download the app from the App Store and started to make a list of the buildings today.

The Mini Transylvania Park features nearly a hundred mock-ups. The purpose of the park is to show the architectural diversity of multicultural Transylvania, displaying in their heyday the most important buildings of all the nations of the region. Many of the buildings are a part of the UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Use your smart device and explore the Mini-Transylvania Park.
Download the app and you don't need a tour guide. You'll have all the information you need for your visit right at your fingertips.
In the app, you can listen to historical and other interesting information about our mock-ups in Romanian, Hungarian, English, German, Russian and Spanish.
For easier building identification, the built-in QR code reader allows visitors to find the building they want to know about in a matter of seconds. source

Unfortunately, there's a bug or something, as after the 45th building, a few star repeating themselves, then the list goes blank. Most likely I'll have to continue at a later date, after the bug is fixed. But till then, let me show you the rest of the mock-ups.

This is the fortress of Marosvásárhely (Targu Mures), with the Reformed church inside, built in 1492. I can tell you, I've visited the place several time and the mock-up is fairly accurate. One minor change is that there are no entry or exit point on the mock-up, no stairs coming down from the hill, as one side of the fortress is on a small hill.

20230730_121802a.jpg

The Evangelical Church of Saschiz, built between 1493 and 1525. Must be a really nice building, typical architecture for Evangelical churches.

20230730_121838a.jpg

The fortress of Segesvár (Sighisoara), which was first mentioned in documents in 1280. This is a check mark for me as I've been there several times. Seeing the establishment from above is a real pleasure as even if you walk round the walls, you can't really feel how big the place is. It's definitely one not to miss, if you like medieval buildings and fortresses.

20230730_121847a.jpg

Perki - Radák castle in Magyarózd (Ozd). I've never heard of this place, nor about the castle, but I loved it the minute I saw it. Turns out Magyarózd is a small village in Mures county. There's the castle and a Reformed church as well, both would be good to visit. The castle was built at the end of the 17th century by Lőrincz Perki

20230730_121856a.jpg

One of the advantages of seeing these mock-ups is that you see the buildings in an impeccable condition. Reality however is different and not as beautiful as these miniatures. Many of the buildings are not in a good conditions and there are some that are only ruins or does not exist at all. Most of them have been through a lot due to various attacks.

20230730_121923a.jpg

Bethlen Castle of Keresd (Chris), built in the middle of the 15th century, by Márk Bethlen. There's a monochrome photo of the castle, here I don't know how old the photo is, but the castle looks like in a deplorable state. Here you can read about the Bethlen family's history, but it's in Hungarian. They had many castles, 17 of which is listed by Wikipedia, as still standing. Looks like the above castle has been renovated as there's a photo of it here and looks good given its age. It's a nice one.

20230730_121946a.jpg

The Unitarian Church of Oklánd (Ocland), most likely built in the 13th century. There's a photo about the interior of the church, here. It's a nice one, with coffered ceiling.

A coffer (or coffering) in architecture is a series of sunken panels in the shape of a square, rectangle, or octagon in a ceiling, soffit or vault. A series of these sunken panels was often used as decoration for a ceiling or a vault, also called caissons ("boxes"), or lacunaria ("spaces, openings"), so that a coffered ceiling can be called a lacunar ceiling: the strength of the structure is in the framework of the coffers. source

Kálnoky Castle, Miklósvár (Miclosoara).

It is among one of the few places in Transylvania that are managed by the same family that gave its name, representing an old story of over four centuries. However, this story is by no means over, it is alive and developing. Count Kalnoky has returned to his origins, and managed to rebuild his family’s legacy. Thus, according to the requirements of our century, the Castle performs several functions: it is the Museum of Transylvanian life, it is the place where the Kalnoky family spends a part of their free time, however, it is open to the public at large nonetheless. It’s courtyard, as well as some of the castle’s rooms could host various types of events. We invite you to discover all the services offered by the Kalnoky Castle and estate. source

This is actually a story with happy ending as the estate is in a very good condition and open to the public, as well as to hosting events.

The fort of Bálványos (Baile Bálványos). Bálványos is a well known tourist destination, especially for teenagers and students. According to the board, the first mention of the fort was in 1360.

20230730_122208a.jpg

Mikes Castle in Zabola (Zabala).

One of the fine examples of the types of manor houses in Tříszék is the Mikes Castle in Zabola, a three-story square building with a porch and a high tent roof. The castle is surrounded by a huge English garden, which is decorated with walkways, terraces, flower beds, and lakes. The Swiss house visible in the garden dates back to the 19th and 20th centuries. It was modeled after the 19th century Alpine wooden houses. source

This castle is in good shape today.

How are you dear friend @erikah good morning
What a beautiful place to visit, I love how they present the historical buildings in miniature, a way to see the buildings in perfect condition, it is a pity that the original buildings are not in such good condition and that some have disappeared
Thank you very much for sharing all the photos and stories related to them.
have a wonderful day

Transylvania went through a lot after the second world war, till the end of 1989, so it's a miracle so many of these buildings are still standing.

Thanks for stopping by, enjoy your day.

This is actully really cool! I'd love to go to something like this but never knew it existed. If I had to pick a favorite I think I'd go with fortress of Segesvár (Sighisoara)

Wow how interesting to see such small structures, it must be interesting to see them in people and so many of them in one place, I think the theme is very cool.
