This position is not really a tactical puzzle, but it is still worth considering. First, it is a test for you to see how well informed you are about the latest developments in the chess world. Secondly, we can still try to come up with a good move for Black.

Now I am going to tell you the history of this position. It comes from the game Nakamura vs Nepomniachtchi played in the ongoing Candidates Tournament. Nakamura had a significant advantage in the opening, but somehow he blew it and then ended up nagging and showing his discomfort with his typical loud body language. So he decided to call it a night and repeat moves with Bc3, to which Nepo very happily agreed and quickly played ...Qd6, allowing Bb4, Qf6, Bc3, hence the repetition.

The point is that Nepo had equalized the game completely and could have pressed harder without risk or at least could have contemplated playing something else, showing his determination and ambition. Instead, he literally took out ...Qd6 all at once, settling for a draw.

I remember Carlsen was commentating the game live and to that he said "how can you play ...Qd6 so fast? That's so undisciplined." And I couldn't agree more. It's something we chess coaches often tell our students to avoid. Well, maybe that's why Carlsen is the world champion and not Nepo, as Judit Polgar pointed out while discussing the game with Carlsen. The truth is that playing too fast can backfire, as it did for Nepo when he lost a piece in his ill-fated match last year.

Anyway, he could argue that this is his style and, at the moment, it might be paying off, as he is clearly leading the tournament. Will history repeat itself? We shall see.

Es algo que los entrenadores de ajedrez solemos decir a nuestros alumnos que eviten. Bueno, tal vez por eso Carlsen es el campeón del mundo y no Nepo, como señaló Judit Polgar mientras discutía la partida con Carlsen. La verdad es que jugar demasiado rápido puede resultar contraproducente, como le ocurrió a Nepo cuando perdió una pieza en su desafortunado match del año pasado.

De todos modos, él podría argumentar que ese es su estilo y, de momento, podría estar dando sus frutos, ya que está liderando claramente el torneo. ¿Se repetirá la historia? Ya lo veremos.
