Holla readers and fellow bloggers, how was your Easter celebration? mine was litπŸ˜‚, it is another edition of weekly featured content titled "looks can be deceiving" in hive learners community. interested in the weekly prompt in hive learners community, kindly follow the link to know more

As a human, one of the most challenging things about us is our ability pretend to be what we are not which has become the attitude and behaviour of most people this days. it is quite difficult to associate with people based on what they say or how they look. this factor have made a lot of people paranoid and the words of men has no value.

I have encountered a lot of people across different sector of the society, it is highly intriguing the rate at which humans mischievous attitude has no end. in the process of acquiring diploma in mass communication I learnt a thing or two about humans psychology.

Every human is driven by desire and needs, in order to meet up with this needs especially in difficult situations, humans tends to exhibit some type of behaviour in order to achieve what they want. This happens to most humans, even those who claim to be highly disciplined. it is mostly considered survival instinct which in most cases overpowers our sense of morality and duty.

Though I have always believed that everyone has the ability to choose the kind of human they want to be but not everyone is offered this choose, some are born into this world without the ability to make choices of their own, they have to do anything in order to survive.

But then, what about those who are privileged to choose between being good or bad but still choose to be bad, I guess it is in humans nature to be good or bad, it is the duty of every human to choose which of the two they are willing to build upon.

Based on my knowledge of some humans I have came across, I have became a little paranoid about the conduct of humans which has affected my relationship with people, in this present era, humans have become more deadlier than wild animals. We prey upon anything we can lay our hands unto.

I have this ability to read people as a result of a lot of bad encounters I had with people who I considered to be trustworthy but turn out to be untrue, when you get hurt multiple times, the brain will eventually create a defence mechanism that will assist you not to fall into the same trap again.

Before I became so paranoid, I was so naive. I have always considered myself to be a pacifist and idealist but eventually I woke up to the reality of how things really are. I saw the true nature of humans, though they are still some humans with good intentions but the bad ones outweigh the good, it's highly difficult to filter since everyone pretends to be good. though these days I have cautioned myself not to be easily fooled by people's appearances.

An example of a devious human I encountered.
I mentioned it as an example in one my write up some time ago selfish act

it was an encounter with a very greedy individual but despite the fact that I knew, I still kept him close due to his calm personality, I felt like he can't do me any harm, until I experienced is true nature.

We knew each other from HND 1 second semester, we both run the same kind of business within the school premises which involves form application, online payments e.t.c due to this we grew closer, I didn't oppose the friendship because I felt like we could be of use to each other and from the looks of it he commercialised on this business before I did, I kind of wanted us to be friends than competitors.

We grew closer in the process of the higher national diploma program, since my own business involves writing of script and broadcast related practical and assignment, he seeks assistance a lot from me whenever he needs it, I never charged him for it but little did I know that after he gets the scripts written by me, he will duplicate it and market it to other broadcast group, which is like selling my ideas without my consent. I found out but I never confronted him about it.

He kept on with his mischievous attitude but I kept giving him a pass, until After our second semester examination, we started working on our final year research project, the process involves picking three topics of your choosing and submitting to our supervisor for approval.

This so called friend of mine brought some of his female friends to me for project topics, since he knew I have more experience with research project than he does and I also render research project services to people, I gave topics to his friends for free hoping that when they get their project topics approved they will come back and patronise my research project business, but I was wrong

Since he knew that he doesn't render research project services, after his female friends I gave topics to got their topics approved, instead of bringing them back to me, this friend of mine, went out of the school premises to look for another person rendering project services, he handed over them to the man and collected commission from the man, I found out about this but I refused to ask him about it because I believed he has the right to take his customers to wherever he pleases.

When it was time for him to do his own research project, he gave the work to me and pleaded that he doesn't have any money, that I should assist him with it, I was thinking, why did he not take it to other person. I didn't say anything I collected his research project and did it for him without collecting a penny. I believed a friend in need is a friend indeed.

Until he did the unimaginable, we both have printers we use for printing for our customers, on this day he phoned me and asked if he could come over because there was no electricity for him to print at his place, I didn't hesitate I invited him over, he came, spend the night and left the following morning.

In the afternoon, I decided to use my printer to print some documents for some customers, in the process I realised the document looks faded which means the ink in the printer toner has finished, this toner I just filled it two days ago and I have not printed up to one Reem of A4 paper, I was curious to remove the toner and check what was going on, surprisingly I realised it wasn't mine because the label on the toner was different from mine.

No one could have had access to to my printer because it is in a close space in my room, then I thought of my friend that came to visit, knowing the kind of person he is, I couldn't stop suspecting him, I took a bike and I headed straight to his place because I knew if I called him, he might deny it. luckily for me, on getting their I did not meet him in his room, I met one of his female friends in the room, which I knew, her name was jumoke.

I greeted her, and went straight to his printer, I opened it and I found my printer Toner in his printer, I was so disappointed. I never knew he could do such a thing, maybe he thought I would not recognise my printer Toner or I wouldn't notice it is missing

While I was still in his room, he came back and saw me beside his printer, from his reaction I knew he knows what I came for, he just frooze. I dropped his printer Toner, took mine and I left his room without uttering a word.

After that day, he called and messaged me many times, I didn't reply because I know I will be extremely disgusted by anything he has to say. Among many of his previous attitude I couldn't let this one go because I realise he was ready to jeopardise my equipment for his own selfish gain and who knows what he might do next. that was how we went our separate ways and we never said a word to each other again.

I hated myself for awhile for not being able to read his true intentions despite the fact that I saw a lot of red flags but I chose to see the good in him but I was deceived by his appearance and looks.

On the other hand, I had another male colleague I judged base on his appearance and I was right.

Though it took me awhile before we became friends, his name is Sadiq, he is religious and his attitude is kind of rigid in nature. he is not the type that talks about himself, so it is hard to tell what kind of person he is.

The first real encounter with him was when I assisted him by promoting his campaign for AMACOS Treasurer, A departmental appointment in the department of mass communication in moshood abiola Polytechnic.

After that we kind of became close, he comes to my house once in a while to copy movies from my laptop, though I never truly understood him fully but I could sense he was a good person.

He assisted with a particular equipment that practically elevated my business, among many other things he has done, before I acquired my own printer, during my final year project I wanted to print my questionnaire for data collection from respondent. the questionnaire number was much and I could not afford the cost. so one day Sadiq came by to copy some movies, while we were discussing I mentioned my predicament, I never knew he had a printer at home.

The moment Sadiq heard of my situation, he offered to help by offering me his printer free of charge, I used it for my project questionnaire and in addition, he allowed me to use it for questionnaire printing business without collecting a penny. out of the money I made from using his printer I was able to buy my own printer.

Lessons I learnt from both experiences.

  • 1) I learnt to judge people based on their actions and behaviour not their looks.

  • 2) I realised people are capable of faking their character just to suit your taste in order for them to achieve their main agenda.

Hope you have learnt something from the the write up. in case you have any contrary opinion, kindly let me know in the comment section

people are capable of faking their character just to suit your taste in order for them to achieve their main agenda.

You're absolutely right when you say this. The world we live in now is a rollercoaster. One can't really different the real people from the fakes.

It's really terrible to have friends who constantly trample upon your empathy and kindness. A lot of people would be very pissed with what your first friend did. He literally crossed the line when he stole from you.

Good people still exist. With the right moves and attitude, you could meet good people just like sadiq.

My dear. This is so true. Appearance and words mean fluff. The only thing that really talks are your actions and ability to change when needed.

As a recent victim of facial paralysis, I can tell you very clearly that in less than a minute the appearance can be so bad that it can never be reversed.
Anyone can be beautiful in a very short time.
They can also be very ugly.

As you mentioned, goodness, honor, pride and trying to be a person who can bring something good into other people's lives.

We exist as much as the people we make happy. Hapyness is only real when shared.
We don't exist when people forget us.
