Learning by Experience is the Best

Truly experience is the best teacher as they said, if you have not tested a thing before you wouldn't know how it really is. That is why I believe that knowledge can not conquer experience. Life is designed in such a way that it teaches us lesson daily as we pass through different facets growth.

I used to hear people say bad company corrupts good manner, though it is scriptural but it has become so popular that I thought, it's just a qoute. Others will also say if you can't beat them you join them. All these are very simple and popular sayings that most of us take casually but they are very potent.

In this life we need to be very careful with the kind of people we keep as friends, their influence can be very powerful. The bitter truth is our friends must affect our lives whether we like it or not. It is now dependent on how the friend is, if he i a good person, he will affect your life positively, if he is bad, he will corrupt you and you may continue to be like that until the day you decide to cut away from him/her.

I Learnt
I made this friend some months back, he is smart nice and kind. I enjoyed being around him so much because he is almost an introvert like me. So many times we can just be together and nobody is talking and we are just on our phones hehe.. I love it honestly.

But he is a person who is obsessed with material things, he is always full of complaints and complains about life. With time he started talking about how to start doing illegal things inorder to cope with the noise in the society. At first I was not concerned about it. But each time we meet that's his own topic. Little did I know that I was transforming too.

After some time my friend joined the illegal business full time , I didn't know how it got through me, normally I am a person that doesn't get intimidated easily but I don't know how it happened I started giving in to the advise he was giving me. I soon started deviating. Before I knew it I was almost doing what he was doing.

You know what? it took the grace of God to get myself back, a good friend of mine Abraham whom I wrote about before visited me one of those days and he noticed my conversation and a lot has changed about me. He was so worried that he started probing me and I opened up to him. It was then he downloaded sense into my head.

The way my life was going astray was a big surprise to me, but I couldn't just figure out what was wrong, until I stopped visiting that new friend i made and avoided him. I never believed that any one can influenced me to that extent.

Now I don't keep anybody whose life is not aligned with mine as friend, Once I noticed your are affecting me negatively as a friend I quickly cut ties and save my soul. Your outward looks and friendliness doesn't matter. Once your heart is corrupt i step away. I am being more conscious of friends than anything else nowadays.

I believe if I had read it from a book or was warned by someone i wouldn't have believed it but now that it happened to me, I can even counsel someone on issues related to that.

Experience went Wrong.

Despite the fact that trying things out on our own always makes that which we have learnt permanent in our lives there are always times that it goes wrong.

While I was doing my teaching practice, I vowed that I was not going to flog any student no matter how far they pushed me to the wall amd it all continued like that until one day, i reconsidered my words because of how stubborn the students were.

You know I am small of stature, so I felt if only I could be tough flogging hell out of them I would command fear out of them. Moreover I saw how my colleagues were flogging them and they are being feared in the school. Infact one of the popular disciplinarian amongst the teaching practice teachers then was my namesake. He doesn't take nonsense from any students.

On the other hand I am cool and all the students love being around me, I just wanted to be tough, you understand that feeling? One day I was teaching and the students were making noise, they continued after the series of warning I gave them. What an opportunity, Next thing was, I stopped teaching and looked for belt, and I was enjoying the moment, but guess what happened? When I reach the middle row because it was a general beating, there was this lady who was very scared, while I was trying to hit her on her hand, the belt went straight towards her eyes. Omo! I almost fainted that day, this lady's eyes swell. I thought she lost it. I had to stop the beating and start looking for what to do about her face.

Thanks be to God, it didn't affect the eyes, I was very scared that day, what type of expensive joke was that? My first day of flogging turned out this bad.

After that day and came and apologized to the lady and I promised the entire class that, I won't ever flog anyone amongst them again, but they should promise never to make noise while I am teaching again and they agreed. That was how, I didn't flog again until we finished.

Experience taught me that flogging is not usually the best way to correct, you are likely to inflict injury on whom you are beating, yet the person might not change. There are many other methods to correct a child, study him or her and know which one works for them.

I have heard of cases of parents beating their children to death, infact one happened in my place. Prevention is better than cure, if you must flog, it must not be influence by aggression and be mindful of the spots you are going to hit.
