I Hate Unexpected Tests

An unexpected test is something everything student should always prepare their minds to face anytime as long as they are still in school. I have experienced series of impromptu test right from high school down to college.

At a point I got used to getting the worst anytime, some teachers think the best time to know if a student really got their message is immediately after their class, so they don't hesitate to give them a surprise test to find out. Other teachers have others motives though.

Someone like me, I prefer going to read my books than listening to the teaching, I am not saying I dispise listening to teachers. I love it but I understand better if I combine what they explained with what I read.

Most of the impromptu test I took always leaves me injured and to be frank, I detest it with passion. My friends will always say a teacher wants to just fail them if he gives them an unexpected test and that's nothing but the truth. How can you face a battle when you are not prepared? The best way to destroy a territory is to ambush it, no matter how strong the men are if they are taken unawares they may end up being defeated. An ambush is the best definition of impromptu test for me.

Here's My Experience

While I was in high school, I was blessed with different kind of teachers, the good, the bad and the ugly so to say lol. I had a very calm physics teacher back then. Very nice and cool to be with yet knows how to wield the rod very well.

There was a day he came to teach and the entire class was not corporating, not as if we were making noise but we were acting too dull over a very simple topic he taught us, he asked questions and we were not showing interest in his class that morning.

He got pissed off and asked us to tear out a piece of paper, you know what that means right? Normally if you fail Mr Ben's test you're finished. We tried begging him, telling him we were not prepare but he proceeded to board and started writing questions as he asked us to submit our physics note books.

There was nothing any of us could do, he already made up his mind, so everyone did as he said, you know physics. I tried my best, I gave it my best shot but I didn't make it in the test and so many others, the person who passed very well was someone we didn't even expect at all. Even the brain box of the class failed .

I was sad about it, how can you give us test without announcement and make it hard by asking us to derive equation? Well as the tradition was he flogged hell out of us when he brought our scripts. He was so disappointed and said we were not serious.

Seriously I don't like unexpected test, it makes me restless. Sometimes one barely pass tests that he/she prepares for talk more of the one with out announcement. We were lucky he didn't record the test, he has to give us another one because our performance was too poor.

There was another one in college, this lecturer has a unique way of assessing her Learners, we didn't know about it else most of us would have paid attention to her lectures. The first day we had her class, she came and she was like ensure you pay close attention get your writing materials and write whatever I am teaching because I don't give printed notes out but most students didn't bother we know we will get the note from our friends.

That course is just so full of diagrams, I was already loosing interest that day because the thing was much and then guess what happened at the end of her lesson? tear out a piece of paper, hmm! I thought it was going to be an open book test because of the diagrams but she asked us to close our notes.

Right before my eyes she wiped those complex diagrams on the board and started dictating questions. You might say students will cheat, well she is one of the most feared lecturer in my department, if she catches you doing anything funny, you know the rest. She moved about to ensure no one was doing anything crazy but I know some students were still smart.

After everything she collected the scripts and left. it was after her class that people were telling us she gives test at the end of every class and it always about what she just finish teaching. So everyone became serious since then, in fact subsequently, we named her mommy test.

For her test, I don't know my performance because in college you barely see your scripts, you only know you performance when your result is out. The good news is I didn't fail her course, I passed very well. heheh!

Lesson

The biggest lesson here is that we should always be prepared for anything anytime. Life's even test don't send signals before they come. As a student one needs to be set for test all the time. Even if a test were not to be given impromptu but being prepared ahead of an assignment makes it easier for one to retain a given information. We don't need to wait until we are told tomorrow is test before we start studying, it can even make us confused.

Like the first instance if I had studied the night before I wouldn't have failed the test and I would have escaped the beating but I didn't. We must never be relaxed in life, not just as students but as individuals. We don't know what may befall us tomorrow or later. so we have to always be ready.
