Parents are so full of wisdom, they have various ways through which they can instill fear upon their children and prevent them from doing certain things. For someone like me lies were some of those things my parents used to keep from from doing certain things and you know what? It worked perfectly well, until the day I stumbled upon the truth.

People lie for different reasons, some inorder to keep the truth secret, some to earn names for themselves, some to keep unnecessary conversation going, some to escape danger, some to earn fortunes and so on. But one bad thing with lies is that, it has an expiry date, the more you nurture it, the more it grows and one day it will grow for everyone to see. Lies don't last long and what ever you earn through lies, you would need lies to maintain it.

The Lie

While growing up , i received a lot of lies from those who are older than me I wouldn't blamed them for it, because I believe they were also lied upon by those who were ahead of them and it was just so unfortunate for them that they didn't discover the truth, so they have to pass it down to another generation. some of those lies include, the woman in the moon with a baby and a dog. Hehehe. If you have not heard that one, you have missed. We grew up, believing nonsense. But thank God am safe now🤣.

Well that is not the one I would love to talk about today. While I was in junior secondary school, junior secondary school two to be precise, my mother noticed I was approaching adolescence, she was probably scared of the kind of environment we live in, because at that time, many young ladies were getting pregnant. She didn't want me to fall into the trap of impregnating anybody's daughter so she decided to tell me something to scare me away from ladies.

What did she say? It was one night I and her were having conversation, everything was moving well, then she said oh, I almost forget there is this thing that is happening this days , she wanted to tell me earlier on but she forgot. Do you know that just by touching a lady, she can become pregnant? I said no, she that's what is trending now, so I should be careful, I should avoid ladies by all means. I got intrigued so I started bombarding her with questions, what kind of touch, she said, hugging and even handshaking.

The thing was strange to me but I didn't think it twice, because I believe in my mother so much. what helped much to heed to her instructions was that, I was not the lady kind of a guy. I dont just like ladies at all, I don't even allow them to sit in my seat. So it was easy form me.

I stopped hugging girls, I stopped shaking them and if they ask me why I don't respond, they just feel am being too strict. With time I passed the news to some of my good friends at home and in school because I didn't want them to fall victims but they laughed at me and said it was a lie.

I continued with my belief until I got to senior secondary school, It was in biology class while my our teacher was teaching us reproduction that my friend ask the question because I told him about it and he was eager to know the truth. Unfortunately that lie ended that day. My teacher told us the truth, there is no taking in without sexual contact.

I found it difficult to believe it for a while but with time I had to, because I saw my male friends hugging and shaking ladies and the girls never go pregnant. So I have to do away with that belief but I felt disappointed at my mother for lying to me all this while. And at that point I was so used to it. It was difficult for me to relate well with the opposite gender, till date I find it hard to hug and shake ladies, better hand shake, I can go with it but hugs are big deals for me. Not that I don't hug o, I hug people but selected few, and not always.

I know my mom loves me that was why she tried to scare me from doing what will cut my destiny short, I know see lied about what the touching really meant because she felt I was still a child. But she should have just told me the truth, there are somethings that are very sensitive that parents shouldn't hide from there kids, but they must use wisdom too in dispensing the knowledge

When lies come to the light, it usually brings disaster, it breaks trust and brings disappointment, it better you tell a person the truth and show him the path to follow than to lie to him/her, you may succeed in installing fear on them for the moment but just know that when they discover the truth, it will be something else.
