Demodex Mites That Use Your Face for Mating
Ever wonder that human body can be host to so many invisible creatures other than viruses and bacteria. Well, some tiny bugs do live on our skin since our birth and they like human face to make it their home for entire life.
These miniscule bugs are basically a type of mites known as Demodex folliculorum species and they hail from Archnida class, which mean they are close relatives of Spiders, but don't worry, they don't make webs on your facial skin. The image taken from Wikipedia.com shows a fully grown adult Demodex mite.

Habitat:
They pass on through human-to-human contact, when a baby is born some bugs from mother's face find their new home on the infant's face and keep living there for the whole life.
Their favorite place to hide is beneath or around hair follicles of humans and other animals alike, specially they can be found in eyelashes. They feed on sebum, fat in pores, and dead skin. Fortunately, they don't like flesh or blood, so in some way they remove some unwanted substances from the facial skin.
They may be 100s or 1000s in population on your face, but usually they don't make any nuisance around as long as they might introduce other bacterial infections due to various reasons, one of them being their feces.
Are They Parasites:
Their behavior does not fit the term 'parasite', but it is more of a symbiotic relationship. In some way they remove unwanted substance from the human face, while humans are providing them necessary food source to carry on their lineage.
Demodex Behavior
Typically, they don't roam around on facial skin and lay their eggs inside the hair follicles glands. Their approximate life is no more than 16 days and they grow around 0.3mm long in size.
They mate while the carrier is sleeping and enjoy their nuptial relationship by making the human face their bed of roses to produce more offspring.
Any Complications?
An abrupt growth in the numbers of Demodex folliculorum on the skin may cause various skin problems including itching, skin redness, accumulation of scales, appearance of yellowish substance around eye lashes and white flakes around hair follicles.
Mostly, people who have weak immune system or taking immunosuppressant medications may get affected with some sort of skin conditions called "demodicosis", a normal person usually don't feel any problem. In case of any complication, immediately visit your doctor and get diagnosed.
I hope you'll like this information and when you go to sleep don't feel uneasy for being a mating ground to these little mites.

This is actually mutualism, because it has mutual benefits for both of the species. It is good for both of the species. We can say that this is a mutualistic symbiosis.
I think mutualism is a phenomenon where 2 creatures get benefit from each other living in their own habitat separately, for example Bees and ants. But, in our case occupying space on or inside another creature where both get benefit from each other the host and the occupant is known as symbiotic relationship.
Thanks for your valuable comment my friend, have a nice weekend.
