These last few days I have set myself the challenge of finding new insects in my yard, that is to say insects that I have not published before and today I will show you one that apparently is very strange and difficult to find, it is a long weevil, when I say long I mean its entire structure including its head.
Apparently they are classified as "Brentidae" which belong to a large family of Coleoptera and this is where I got confused because they group weevils and beetles in the same group, calling these; long beaked weevils. But this one in particular not only has a long beak but also a long head.
The way it moves makes it have a very strange movement, it looks like one of those robot dogs that we can see on YouTube, especially when it changes direction, it seems that the head goes to one side and the body to another. I can't tell you if this weevil is in a young stage or if it is already an adult. Although I think that for being a weevil it should not grow more.
As you can see in the following pictures it can bend its head in a 90° angle and just at the juncture it is like a sphere that turns inside its other part. Next to that juncture it has eyes that we hardly notice.
Something that did not cross my mind was that this insect could fly until it took flight and left; which left me puzzled because its wings are at the back, which logically makes it have poor maneuverability and yet I could observe it when it was moving away and it flew very well.

Estos últimos días me he propuesto como reto encontrar nuevos insectos en mi patio, es decir insectos que no he publicado anteriormente y el día de hoy les mostrare uno que al parecer es muy extraño y difícil de encontrar, se trata de un gorgojo largo, cuando digo largo me refiero a toda su estructura incluyendo su cabeza.
Al parecer son clasificados como “Bréntidos” que pertenecen a una gran familia de coleópteros y aquí es donde me causo confusión ya que agrupan en el mismo grupo a gorgojos y escarabajos, llamando a estos; gorgojos de pico largo. Pero este en particular no solo tiene el pico largo sino también la cabeza.
La forma en que se desplaza hace que tenga un movimiento muy extraño parece uno de esos perros robot que podemos ver en YouTube, más que todo cuando cambia de dirección, parece que la cabeza va para un lado y el cuerpo para otro. No sabría decirles si este gorgojo está en una etapa joven o ya es un adulto. Aunque creo que por ser gorgojo no debería crecer más.
Como pueden observar en las fotos siguientes puede doblar su cabeza en un Angulo de 90° y justo en la coyuntura que lo hace es como una esfera que gira dentro de su otra parte. Junto a esa unión tiene los ojos que apenas si los notamos.
Algo que no paso por mis pensamientos es que este insecto pudiese volar hasta que levanto vuelo y se marchó; lo que me dejo desconcertada ya que sus alas van en la parte de atrás, lo que hace lógicamente que tenga una mala maniobrabilidad y sin embargo pude observarlo cuando se estaba alejando y volaba muy bien.
