Feathered Friends: Show Me A Photo Contest Round 182

While driving out in the countryside, a large bird caught our attention as it soared above the car. We pulled over for a better look and realised it was a red kite.

This is my entry to the Feathered Friends Show Me A Photo Contest - Free Theme Round 182.

With its distinctive red feathers and forked tail, we then realised that the bird was a red kite, a species that is not commonly seen in our area. The last time I saw a red kite was a few years ago while holidaying in Scotland.

I usually see kestrels, buzzards, and sparrow hawks around here, so it was nice to see a red kite flying overhead.

Thank you to @nelinoeva and the @featheredfriends team for running the competition.

I saw just once the red kite, also not common where I live. You cannot mistake it, so well and detailed the capture is. Brilliant shots!

Larger raptors always capture our attention, lovely to see the red kite very distinctive by the tail.
