Beech Trees at Upper Moor, Derbyshire
While I was out walking I went to visit the beautiful beech trees at Upper Moor, which is only about 15 minutes from me. They must be the most photographed trees in the area.
They look great in the sun, the mist or the snow. Unfortunately, if it snows it's too risky to get to them in my little car.
Around this area, there are several coniferous forests. They are commercial plantations and owned by Forestry England, but everyone is allowed to access them for a walk. It's quite a popular area, and even though I see several cars parked up, I don’t bump into many other walkers.
These are the trees from the other side. I think it's private land so I couldn’t get into the field.
Further on, I spotted a few sweet chestnuts that had fallen from the trees. We used to go hunting for chestnuts when I was a child. These were far too small though. We had an open fire when I was young. My mum and dad used to put the chestnuts on a prong and roast them on the fire. It all sounds idyllic, but sometimes they'd explode, and you'd get bits of chestnut in your hair! Not a good look.
Brrr! As I left the trees behind, another photographer turned up ....

oooooOOOOOOOOOoooo pretty!
They’re much better in the flesh! 🙂
It's the chestnut season. I never had them as a part of my childhood. Maybe because they aren't native to where I grew up. But back in Ukraine I used to walk through streets flooded with fallen chestnuts. So beautiful.
Ooo you've set the scene. I can smell them roasting now. 🙂
Lovely autumn colours! I do miss autumn but the thought of cold winter put me at bay in hot climate!
I'm strange as I love cold days. 🙂
Cold days are okay as long as we could have central heating system. But houses here don’t have heating system so we had to take cold showers sometimes!
Magical!
Thank you!

The beech trees at Upper Moor are truly stunning! I'm glad to hear that you're able to access the coniferous forests for a walk. They sound like a wonderful place to explore.
They are like an oil painting sometimes. 🙂
Loved the chestnuts story. :))
