A Bimble Around the Forge Nature Reserve

We visited the Forge Nature Reserve today that lays on the banks of the River Derwent. It was free car parking which is always a good start.

It was good to see they've put a sign up telling the public of its history, "Tramway Portland Path Jacksdale Wharf and Basin, Where the coal, from the Portland Collieries, was loaded onto barges, for shipment on the Cromford canal."

The park had a lovely wild flower patch.

The nature reserve is home to 24 species of butterfly. Sadly, we only saw a few today, starting with the Small Skipper.

...... a Gatekeeper

...... and a Meadow Brown that refused to open its wings.

Not sure what kind of dragonflies that were flying over the pond as we were too far away. If anyone knows, feel free to leave a comment.

We saw a few common spotted orchids that likes this kind of habitat.

It was cooler today with spots of rain. It was good to have a short walk before the hot weather returns.

In my day, children played outside and just returned for food, bath and bed. I blame that. 🙂

Thank you! I'm fine thank you although it's a little too hot for me weather wise. I quite like the word bimble too.
