💥What's Wrong with Wearing Makeup?💥

The law of men says, “Ignorance of the law excuses no one from compliance therewith.” For me, that is very illogical, very harsh, very cruel, very inhumane, and very much different from the law of God.

The law of God, even if you look at it from different angles, is very sensible, very considerate, and very compassionate.

Biblically speaking, your ignorance of the law does not impute you any obligation or any liability should you happen to violate any. You are not considered sinning if you committed a sinful act out of your ignorance of the law.

1 TIMOTHY 1:13 says,

Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

This was a confession of the Apostle Paul to the first century Christians. He admitted all the sins that he committed before. Nevertheless, he obtained mercy and he was pardoned because he committed them all ignorantly in unbelief.

How grievous were the sins that the Apostle Paul committed?

In the book of ACTS 22:4 he said,

And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

The Apostle Paul used to be a persecutor of the first century Christians. And later, in GALATIANS 1:13, he confessed:

For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:

He was very cruel with the first century Christians. But because he did that in his ignorance of the law and in unbelief, meaning he was still not under the law, he obtained mercy from God.

The same principle should be applied to all. Before a person is considered to be sinning because he is violating a law, we have to find out first if that person is under the law, or not.

ROMANS 3:19 says,

Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: . . .

We have to accept the truth that there are people who are not under the law. They are ignorant of the law; they are ignorant of the rules. We will be committing a big mistake if we will charge them of committing a sin when they are not under the law.

For example, you cannot accuse a woman who is wearing makeup of transgressing the law when she is not under the law yet. Actually, there is nothing wrong about wearing makeup, and we do not prohibit it in our congregation. What we prohibit is the wearing of excessive makeup, which practically hides the God-given physical features.

It is a fact that there are women who try to hide their natural physical appearance by putting on heavy makeup and by wearing ornaments. This is what the Bible says about those women:

HOSEA 2:13 says,

And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the Lord.

What God wants is simplicity; He prefers the natural. But because of the excessive adornments that those women had worn, it even reached the point that they had forgotten God.

ISAIAH 3:16-25 says,

16 Moreover the Lord saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:
17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts.
18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,
19 The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,
20 The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings,
21 The rings, and nose jewels,
22 The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins,
23 The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails.

24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; and burning instead of beauty.
25 Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.

God was speaking about the rudeness of the daughters of Zion, or Israel. They did not even think of bowing their heads to God anymore. They walked with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes. It seemed that they were very proud of themselves. Imagine, from head to feet they were overly decorated and ornamented like Christmas trees.

And as a curse, as stated in verse 24, the Lord said, And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; . . . That is why many women now are inflicted with different kinds of diseases, especially sexually transmitted diseases. It is because of the curse of God; He didn’t want the women to be very proud.

But in the time of the first century Christians, this is what 1 TIMOTHY 2:9-10 says,

9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, nor gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

It was not only the Apostle Paul who wrote about how women, Christian women, should adorn themselves, but the Apostle Peter also.

In 1 PETER 3:3, it says,

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel.

In some translations, it had been specified as, costly apparel.

This admonition may sound hard, and many women might not welcome it, but is a part of the gospel. Unfortunately, many religious leaders do not teach this particular doctrine. Instead, they speak of themselves, seeking their own glory, but not the glory of the Almighty God.

JOHN 7:17-18 says,

17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

Most of the preachers today only speak of themselves. They deliberately dismiss or put aside an entire verse of the Bible, which is an act of defiance to what God said in JEREMIAH 26:2,

Thus saith the Lord; Stand in the court of the Lord’s house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the Lord’s house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:

We believe that Christians should adhere to the word of God be it easy or difficult, soft or hard, sweet or bitter, light or heavy. And as a preacher of God, it is against my conscience to take away a word, more so, a verse, or verses of the Bible.

But let me reiterate that the law applies only to those who are under the law.
