Hello everyone, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new contribution and hope you have a good start to the new week! In this article I introduce an important personality in more detail and I am happy if you can learn new things.

Recently I had the opportunity to photograph this masterful portrait of the German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832) which with a high attention to detail brings this important personality to the light and it's probably also one of the best known of his portraits. It was painted by Joseph Karl Stieler (1781 - 1858) who made a name for himself as an artist and is particularly known for having worked as a court painter of some German kings and this portrait of Goethe was created at the request of King Ludwig I (1786 - 1868) who was generally known as a sponsor of art and culture. Goethe can be regarded as one of the most influential personalities in Germany who had acquired knowledge in various areas and he was particularly known for his literary works which are known worldwide and it can definitely be said that he was a universal scholar who had also dealt with science, plants, history, alchemy, politics or other things. Goethe himself was also interested in minerals and built up a considerable collection in the course of his life which consisted of several thousand specimens and even the mineral Goethite was named in the 19th century after him. His traces can be found in various places and there are numerous places such as streets, schools or others that were named after Goethe and on an international level monuments can be found that present the poet.

He himself was born in Frankfurt in 1749 and before he devoted himself to his great passion as a poet, he first worked as a lawyer after his studies, but quickly realized that his passion would be elsewhere and he decided to go to Weimar and is also considered an important founder of the so-called Weimar Classicism, which was one of the most important epochs of German literature and characterized by ancient influences. His lifetime was generally also known as the transition to modernity and the time from the 18th century was also known for the numerous technical innovations and Goethe was particularly famous with the works Faust, Sorrows of Young Werther, Prometheus or Götz von Berlichingen as well as many others and he preferred to deal with nature or romantic themes. His life was influenced by many hurdles that he sometimes worked through in his works and it's known that he had to struggle with some problems and he can also be described as an freethinker who always led a life in which he swam against the current.

To be honest, I think I never heard about him. Or, I may have read about him in the history class but I forgot already (history was a boring subject to me :P)

It's nice to know about him from your post. Thanks
