The Painter Joseph Anton Koch
Hey dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new contribution and hope you had a weekend which was full of interesting experiences! In this article I would like to go into the history of art and hope you are able to expand your knowledge.
This breathtaking work of art was made by the Austrian painter Joseph Anton Koch (1768 - 1839) who was known for his numerous landscape paintings like this work in which he depicts the Schmadribachfall which is located in Switzerland. He was inspired by this painting during one of his stays in Switzerland in which he dealt with the landscape and was especially inspired by the Alps and he developed an interest in art early on, but he was first motivated to do an apprenticeship in the religious sector, but he felt more attracted to art and already during this time he was artistically active and was praised for his works and even met a baron in Augsburg who decided to promote his work and later he had the opportunity to work for a sculptor and later he went to Germany where he began studying in the field of art in Stuttgart. He was born as one of many children of a merchant family in Tyrol and already in his early childhood he had to struggle with losses when he had lost some of his siblings and it is assumed that Koch was already strongly influenced by nature before his art studies and grew up very true to nature and spent a lot of time in forests or other places of nature. In Stuttgart his art was very admired and he got a lot of praise but it was not quite the right thing for him and he preferred to be able to work more freely so he decided to leave the academy and go on trips and first he visited Strasbourg and later Switzerland and he was very revolutionary during this time and was influenced by the French Revolution. For a few years he was attracted to Italy where he visited different places and later settled in Rome where he joined a group of artists and he himself was known for always seeking contact with other artists during his life and moving in circles in which he met many well-known artists of his time. For some time Koch also lived in Vienna and later decided to go back to Rome where he spent the rest of his life and during all his travels, he got to know a lot about the different cultures and integrated these scenarios into his works and in nature he made numerous sketches for his works and felt particularly strongly attracted to the Alps and it can be said that he had a great influence on the art epoch of his time.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about art! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens.
there are very special flowers on the bottom left of this picture. they are drawn very, very small. that's why i'm showing you a picture i took of them:
there is a squirrel and a flower with 5 blossoms and a yellow circle in the middle, so: forget-me-not. i wrote a big article about this flower, which is very revealing and says a lot about what the artist wanted to say with his art.
Maybe it would be helpful if you would translate my text into English, because there are many little things in my text that could help you to decipher this plant, especially in the situation shown in this picture.
i find these little hints very, very revealing :) i pay a lot of attention to them in such masterpieces.
i think that the artists want to convey something to us subliminally. and since i already know a lot about plants and what their symbolism means, i can see it directly.
the artist has also managed to depict the magic of nature in this picture.
best regards
Hey @charlissy, I’m glad to hear from you and appreciate that you took the time to read my contribution! Great that we share this passion and you are also interested in art, you said that well! Art is a great way to hide messages and, as you said, it are often the things that people do not recognize at first glance.
I have read your post and find it interesting how far-reaching the symbolism is, I already knew something about the plant but was able to learn some new things, thank you! It is good to know that it is one of the plants that according to mythology is under a special protection of mythical creatures and as you mentioned, the mythology is as often an important metaphor and a great way to express symbolism. It is an important symbol for the key that is already in someone and the plant can probably help to recognize this, as you mentioned it can probably also refer to material things but it will probably be more related to the own hidden self or powers. I also have to think of the alchemy in which in old works of art there is talk of the garden of philosophical art in which you can only get if you have the right key. In this context, the key is not to be regarded as a physical object, but already anchored in one self and can also be considered as a metaphor for the hidden self and if someone should still get into the garden without the key, this will be useless and this person will not find his way there, since this person has not found the way to the inner self. I think the message is similar in this context and I find it interesting that there are so many different legends that were created around the plant and was considered an important emblem.
It is difficult to say exactly what the artist wants to express with it, even if you look at certain symbolism in general, you can only decipher it exactly if you also have the right key, between sender and receiver. Happy that you also pay attention to the subliminal things, that make art even more interesting :) I wish you a great start to the new week!
thank you for your compliment.
i fully agree to your conclusion
and i am also curious about how other people interpret it if they also know some symbolism. because even if we would know the same thing about the same plant, how we feel and see it based on our own individual experiences with it is completely different.
this makes the world very interesting and divers. i like it a lot how individual it can be when some specific people find to their own self :)
in this picture above i directly saw that we shouldnt forget. we should not forget to respect and love the nature we live in. in nature there are many things we could discover. so also dont forget our curiosity to discover and revealing the secrets of nature ;) and do not forget how the nature can also help us to remember our own self we have forgotten through reincarnation or trauma.
thanks for your big text, i like it a lot.
have a nice day :)

So true, it's interesting that everyone always sees something different in artworks and combines it with different symbolism, if someone has also dealt with it. Artworks like these also have these aspects of enlightenment as well as in this one, which because of the scene also motivate to visit these places, there is always a own language behind works of art as I also mentioned in my new contribution and there are different ways to understand it. Thanks, I wish you the same, have a great start to the week dear @charlissy
