The Painter George Desmarées

Hey everyone, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new contribution and hope you have a great start to the new weekend! In my new contribution I would like to go into art history and hope you can expand your knowledge a bit.

You can see here are two breathtaking portraits created by the Swedish painter George Desmarées (1697 - 1776) in the city of Munich and the first portrait shows Duchess Maria Anna of Bavaria (1722 - 1790) who became the Duchess of Bavaria by marriage. In the other painting, Duke Clemens Franz de Paula of Bavaria (1722 - 1770) can be seen and he and Maria Anna decided to marry in 1742 to secure the succession, but the two had to struggle with heavy blows of fate when all their four children died immediately after birth, which resulted in the succession to change. The painter has generally made a huge name for himself when it comes to creating portraits and he was mainly responsible for the creation of paintings at German courts during his life where he had convinced numerous nobles with his love for detail and he also goes down in history as one of the best-known portrait painters of his time and can be counted from style to rococo. The artist did not have an easy childhood and had to fight early with the loss of his parents, which should not prevent him from starting an apprenticeship as an artist and he decided to move to the culturally rich capital Stockholm where he trained as an artist and even if he had dealt with other styles, he knew that his greatest passion is the creation of portraits. After his studies he created his first works and decided to expand his artistic horizon by travelling to different countries and dealing there with the culture or history of art and later he received his first great commissions from nobles and visited their courts to pursue their wishes and with time he received more and more commissions from rulers of his time who admired his art.

I think so too! Even if he was often limited in his work and could not always paint freely, this has nothing to do with his top performance.

Being not an art lover, I think I am hearing the name "George Desmarées" for the first time. Looks like he had an incredible life journey and it wasn't an easy one.

However, I am more interested to learn about couples in the portairts. Loosing their all children, how did they keep going! Who became the successor?

Happy that you are also interested in the topic and show an interest in history. It has been really tragic, I am not 100% sure but believe that the possession of Clemens Franz was transferred to Maximilian III Joseph.
