Here you can see a work of art that has been made of marble and represents the Italian model Victoria Caldoni (1805 - 1890) who has an important meaning in Italian art where she was especially active in the city of Rome and was a model for numerous artists. She was considered an ideal image of the woman from the 19th century and was represented in about a hundred different works of art as in this one which was made by the German sculptor Rudolf Schadow (1786 - 1822) and early on he was inspired by his father who also worked as a sculptor who motivated him to also take this path and he taught him a lot about this art form in the early years and trained him. He grew up in Berlin and later decided to move to Rome where he was very interested in the culture and learned a lot about various people from antiquity and the original purpose of his trip to Rome was to learn more about art. He went together with his brother to Rome who had also started a career as an artist and he specialised in painting and you can already see in his early works of Rudolf Schadow that he was very influenced by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770 - 1844). In Rome he and his brother had strong homesickness after some time and went back to Germany, but he decided to go back to Rome without his brother where he stayed for the rest of his life and worked as an independent artist in his own workshop.
