Strawberry in Mythology
Hey dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new contribution and hope you had a day that brought some interesting experiences into your life! In this article I would like to discuss mythology and hope you are able to expand your knowledge a little.
Here are some pictures of the strawberry and this species is also known as garden strawberry which is also known by the scientific name Fragaria x ananassa and this cross was created during the 18th century in Europe. It is suspected that this fruit was already of great importance in prehistoric times and served as an important food for humans and during the Middle Ages, it was already cultivated on a large scale and people have developed numerous methods to grow them and from a symbolic point of view it was considered an important symbol of love in the Middle Ages and was often associated with fertility. It was considered an important status symbol and often nobles adorned themselves with it, but it was not popular with everyone and was often associated with black magic and there were even views that people who consumed this fruit would commit sin. Also in the mythology of other cultures it behaves similarly and the strawberry was mostly associated with goddesses of love as in ancient Greece, it was associated with the goddess of the love Aphrodite and other gods also consumed this fruit and there were views that it was a gift of them. When it comes to the origin, there is also a legend that it was created from the drops of blood of the young man Adonis which once fell to the ground when he was killed out of jealousy by Ares, but there are different versions of this legend and in others it is said that it could also have arisen from the tears of Aphrodite which fell to the ground when she mourned him and some well-known poets from ancient times mentioned the strawberry.
There are also similar interpretations of the meaning in other cultures and I find it interesting to see how there are often parallels with each other and also in the Norse mythology, the strawberry was consecrated to the goddess of love Freya and there are legends here that she would hide the soul of deceased children in the fruit so that they were safe and would reach infinity in this way. The strawberry was also of great importance among various indigenous peoples and was worshipped as a sacred fruit and here there are various interpretations and some are of the opinion that one could communicate with other worlds through consumption and others use it for ritual purposes or to heal people and among some Native Americans, it was also considered a symbol of love and used as an aphrodisiac. The full moon in June was also associated with strawberries by the Native Americans and had a particularly important meaning for the Algonkin peoples who lived in today's area of Canada. It is no wonder that many artists have also oriented themselves to strawberries and it appears in various works of art and to this day, it is considered one of the most consumed fruits in the world which fascinates numerous artists.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about mythology! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens.
