One of the goals of alchemy was to transform the matter and so there were many experiments where it was about producing gold artificially and according to the general ideology of the alchemists, nature is not yet complete and it is the task of people to do this. A good example are certain medicinal plants which have been transformed by various processes into an even more effective medicine to bring them into a better state and this principle can be related not only to the practical side of alchemy, but also to the spiritual where it was about bringing the human into a better state. There were views that the human is a divine being which is waiting to recognise his full potential and it was the work of the alchemist to find ways to achieve this goal and to bring humans to enlightenment and this way was also often referred to as a path from the darkness into the light. The spiritual development was sometimes even more important than the practical and one can also say in this context that the Philosopher's Stone is already in the human body and by different stages of development, it can be awakened and depending on the culture, this view is very similar and the development of one's own spirituality was of high priority for the old alchemists. Good examples can also be found in ancient China where one of the goals of the alchemists was to create the golden elixir with which it was possible to achieve immortality and it is not an elixir that can be produced in the physical state, but according to the philosophy this can already be found in humans and through the own spiritual development, it is possible to activate it and come to immortality or even reverse the ageing process. Only when one recognised the spiritual side was it also possible to better understand the practical work and know that the development of human in every culture in which alchemy was practised was of the most important goals. It can be said that it was about freeing humans from the false existence which was often full of illusions and to show him the true potential and in this context, the human is a being which is trapped in the shackles of indoctrination and waiting to be freed.
