Lyophyllum fumosum

Hey everyone, at the beginning I would like to welcome you all to my new contribution and hope you have a day that has brought some interesting experiences into your life! In this article I would like to talk about nature and introduce a new mushroom after some time.

This mushroom is also known under the scientific name Lyophyllum fumosum and it's an edible mushroom which can usually be found relatively late in the year and depending on the region, it can also sometimes be collected during the cool days. With a little luck it can also be found in spring and the distribution area is relatively diverse and it can be found in addition to forests also on meadows or roadsides and it's also typical that it goes in symbiosis with some different trees which is why it is extremely important from an ecological point of view. In forests, most specimens can usually be found on the edge where it can often be found in bushes or other overgrown places and it can generally be considered as a frequent fungus which, however, is rather unknown to some as an edible mushroom. It is relatively easy to recognise and there are only a few fungi with which it can be confused and some of the same genus look very similar, but are not toxic and can also be consumed and differ most by the consistency which is rather firmer in Lyophyllum fumosum. Another typical distinguishing feature is the brown hat as well as the neutral smell which can sometimes be slightly sour and as an edible mushroom it should best be consumed fresh after it has been sufficiently cooked and at the end I would like to mention that people looking for mushrooms should always have a certain scepticism and if a specimen is unknown it should simply be left standing!

Many thanks for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about nature! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens.

So, you are also a fungi lover? Do you eat fugus?

I usually don't. Sometimes only, as an ingredient of a pizza we order from the pizza shops!

You can try a few different species of mushrooms safely from supermarkets. The flavors can be somewhat different. You can definitely get a more diverse experience from wild mushrooms, but you should absolutely know what you are doing or trust an expert to identify the edible ones. I don't think phone apps alone should be trusted for something this serious.

Some companies also sell mycelium in bags ready to sprout at home, which can yield a lot of mushrooms in a very economical way.

I have also often made this experience that apps to identify often lure you to a wrong direction. For beginners it’s recommended in any case to look for mushrooms which are easy to identify.

To identify edible mushrooms it is necessary to perform a much more careful analysis than that. Some toxic species are easy to spot, but others look a lot like edible species. A quick analysis is often very insufficient. Be careful.

Thank you for mentioning it again that people should always have a certain scepticism when searching @agrante

At the same time, there are many mushrooms, it is good news that they are edible. I would like to see more posts like this. Very beautiful photos.

Hi! Nice photos. Just a little note, species names in Latin should be formatted in italic, both words (genus and the specific epithet) always. If you are writing by hand then you should underline, well because doing italic by hand is not so easy :)

Here is an example of a scientific journal actually making the case to expand this rule for higher taxonomic ranks as well.
