History of Lacquer screen
Hey everyone, at the beginning I would like to welcome you all to my contribution and hope you had a great start into the new week! Today I would like to go into culture and would be happy if you can expand your knowledge.
You can see here a Chinese lacquer screen which is not only a great decoration, but also has the task of protecting the privacy of people and the origin probably is in ancient China where it was traditionally used. When exactly the first specimens were developed can no longer be said exactly and over the centuries, the design has changed more and more and people have discovered different applications and it can also be an advantage to separate rooms from each other or protect from the weather and one of the most interesting characteristics is that it's easy to handle. During the 7th century, more and more screens were exported to Japan, where it should not take long until individual lacquer screens were produced and was especially popular in imperial families and developed into a status symbol that was later also accepted by the population as a furniture. It should not be long before people in other Asian countries showed interest in this special form of art and the style was increasingly adapted and changed by various artists and also often associated with ceremonial purposes and used in rituals or festivities and it can be said that later people from other continents were also inspired by it and during the 16th century, more specimens came to Europe where it had spread more and more at royal courts. Often this decoration can also be also found in Asian restaurants and has developed into an object of fashion and it's typical that it is painted with lacquer colors as well as different motifs which are often based on history or mythology and is important in the production that it is robust and between the traditional form of production until today a lot has changed and the process of production has been often replaced by cheap materials, which is why it is sometimes often controversial because some colors can also trigger health problems.

That's a pretty interesting art on the screen. We have seen similar type of screens in the hospital to maintain patient's privacy while examining or doing some procedures :)
