Götzenite Mineral
Hey dear community, I hope you had a great start to the new week and you are all well! In this article, I would like to talk a little about minerals and hope you are able to expand your knowledge.
Here you can see a specimen of the rare mineral Götzenite, which is probably first found during the 20th century in Africa and the place of discovery is the Nyiragongo volcano in Congo, which often threatens to erupt to this day and the immediate surroundings is often threatened by this ongoing danger. For mineral collectors, this volcano is particularly interesting and according to today, over 20 new types of minerals could be discovered here and it was named in honor of the former governor of the colony German East Africa Gustav Adolf von Götzen (1866 - 1910), who was perfect for this position due to his diverse knowledge of this region as well as the numerous contacts. It is assumed that he was one of the first of the European climbers of the volcano and more detailed research of the mineral can be traced back to the two researching Kai Hytönen and Thure Georg Sahama who had named it after him and was in addition to the type locality in Congo, just over 20 other places of discovery are known. The formation can almost always be attributed to volcanic activities and it is particularly often found as a component of volcanic rocks and in rare cases it is also a metamorphic rock which is often found together with other minerals and when it comes to the appearance are typical characteristics the shine or the structure of the crystals which often leads to the formation of twins and the color can vary greatly depending on the additions. Because of the rarity, there are no areas of application from an economic point of view and enjoys great popularity, especially in the circles of collectors.
