El pasado 31 de agosto Netflix estrenó el live action de uno de los más grandes animes de la historia: One Piece. Soy gran amante del anime desde hace varios años, pero sinceramente estaba un poco evasiva a ver este anime; a pesar de que reconocía que debía ser maravilloso por la gran fama que tiene. Sin embargo, por alguna extraña razón estaba muy emocionada con todo lo relacionado con este live action, le tenía un buen presentimiento. Y no me equivoqué.

El día del estreno estaba de viaje, pero cuando llegué a mi casa me dediqué todo un día a ver esta serie. Los live action de anime tienen una maldición de que comúnmente son muy malos, pero Netflix se arriesgó, jugó y ganó, fue un proyecto sumamente maravilloso, y la señal que necesitaba para darle una oportunidad al anime💜 Antes de hacer esta reseña quería ver los episodios del anime que fueron abarcados en la serie, así que ya estoy lista para hablarles sobre la maravilla de One Piece✨

Last August 31 Netflix released the live action of one of the greatest anime in history: One Piece. I have been a great anime lover for several years, but honestly I was a little reluctant to watch this anime; although I recognized that it should be wonderful for the great fame it has. However, for some strange reason I was very excited about everything related to this live action, I had a good feeling about it. And I was not wrong.

The day of the premiere I was traveling, but when I got home I dedicated a whole day to watch this series. Live action anime have a curse that they are commonly very bad, but Netflix took a risk, played and won, it was an extremely wonderful project, and the sign I needed to give anime a chance💜 Before doing this review I wanted to watch the anime episodes that were covered in the series; now, I'm ready to talks about the wonder of One Piece✨

22 años atrás, la Marina pudo capturar a Gold Roger el famoso Rey de los Piratas, siendo sentenciado a muerte como medida del Gobierno para acabar con el número creciente de piratas. Sin embargo, antes de morir, Roger se dirige a la población que se había reunido para verlo, y les menciona que su gran tesoro esconde riqueza, fama y poder, y está en algún lugar en el mar, esperando ser encontrado; de esta manera, anima a todos de apoderarse de los océanos, y comenzando así la Gran Era de los Piratas. Posteriormente, este tesoro sería reconocido por todos como el One Piece✨

22 years ago, the Marines were able to capture Gold Roger the famous Pirate King, being sentenced to death as a government measure to put an end to the growing number of pirates. However, before dying, Roger addresses the people who had gathered to see him, and mentions to them that his great treasure hides wealth, fame and power, and is somewhere in the sea, waiting to be found; thus, he encourages everyone to take over the oceans, and thus beginning the Great Age of Pirates. Subsequently, this treasure would be recognized by all as the One Piece✨

Después conocemos a Luffy, el protagonista de esta historia, un joven cuyo gran sueño es convertirse en el nuevo Rey de los Piratas al encontrar el One Piece. Su inspiración proviene de haber convivido durante su infancia con el pirata pelirrojo Shanks y su tripulación, además, durante ese tiempo, Luffy adquirió habilidades extraordinarias en su cuerpo, después de haber comido una “Fruta del Diablo”. No obstante, antes de comenzar su gran aventura de ir en búsqueda del mayor tesoro de la historia, primero debe encontrar algunos requisitos indispensables, por ejemplo: un mapa, un barco, y una tripulación (sus nakamas).

Durante el transcurso de los episodios vemos como Luffy va consiguiendo cada una de esas cosas, aunque tenga que meterse en muchos problemas e ir ganando enemigos. ¡Pero lo logra!✨ Después de conseguir un hermoso barco, el Going Merry, haber reunido una gran tripulación, conocida como los Sombreros de Paja, y de obtener un mapa hacia su tesoro, Luffy se embarca hacia su gran aventura por la Grand Line para encontrar el One Piece.

Then we meet Luffy, the protagonist of this story, a young man whose great dream is to become the new King of the Pirates by finding the One Piece. His inspiration comes from having lived during his childhood with the red-haired pirate Shanks and his crew, in addition, during that time, Luffy acquired extraordinary abilities in his body, after having eaten a "Devil Fruit". However, before starting his great adventure to go in search of the greatest treasure in history, he must first find some indispensable requirements, for example: a map, a ship, and a crew (his nakamas).

Over the course of the episodes, we see how Luffy goes about getting each of these things, even if he has to get into a lot of trouble and gain enemies. But he succeeds!✨ After getting a beautiful ship, the Going Merry, having assembled a great crew, known as the Straw Hats, and obtaining a map to his treasure, Luffy sets off on his great adventure down the Grand Line to find the One Piece.

En resumen: ¡me encantó!💕 Lo vi dos veces, con audio en inglés y en español (en apoyo a los actores que comentaré después), y aunque a continuación les comentaré los puntos favorables en mi opinión, hay algo que permitió que esta serie se convirtiera en el gran éxito mundial qué es: la participación del mangaka Eiichirō Oda. El creador de One Piece estuvo involucrado en el desarrollo de la serie, dado que es conocido como un hombre muy dedicado a su obra, no es una sorpresa que haya supervisado cada detalle, y estoy segura de que gracias a él la gran mayoría ama este live action.

In short: I loved it!💕 I watched it twice, with audio in English and in Spanish (in support of the actors that I will comment later), and although below I will tell you about the favorable points in my opinion, there is something that allowed this series to become the great worldwide success that it is: the participation of the mangaka Eiichirō Oda. The creator of One Piece was involved in the development of the series, since he is known as a man very dedicated to his work, it is not a surprise that he has supervised every detail, and I am sure that thanks to him the vast majority loves this live action.

Vale, este es un live action de un anime increíblemente largo y desarrollado, por ende, no podían hacerlo todo al pie de la letra, o todavía estarían grabando las escenas. Aunque se nota que el guion trata de aferrarse lo más que puede a la historia original, aun así hay varios cambios en la trama, especialmente para hacer más corto la narración de la historia. Sin embargo, no lo veo como algo malo, dado que Oda no solo buscaba satisfacer a su fandom, sino también atraer a nueva gente (como yo), y después de haber visto los episodios del anime, considero que hicieron un buen resumen de la trama, respetando los detalles más característicos e importantes.

Por ejemplo: las historias de la infancia de cada personaje, las localizaciones como Arlong Park o el Baratie, el diseño y desarrollo de los personajes, entre otros. Además, respetaron el orden de los arcos argumentales del anime, y sí, ignoran varios hechos, pero como ya mencioné, era necesario para la creación del live action, hay escenas que serían muy complicadas de hacer realidad.

Okay, this is a live action of an incredibly long and developed anime, so they couldn't do everything verbatim, or they would still be filming the scenes. Although you can tell that the script tries to stick as close as possible to the original story, there are still several changes in the plot, especially to make the storytelling shorter. However, I don't see it as a bad thing, since Oda not only wanted to satisfy his fandom, but also to attract new people (like me), and after having seen the anime episodes, I consider that they made a good summary of the plot, respecting the most characteristic and important details.

For example: the childhood stories of each character, the locations such as Arlong Park or Baratie , the design and development of the characters, among others. Also, they respected the order of the story arcs of the anime, and yes, they ignore several facts, but as I mentioned, it was necessary for the creation of the live action, there are scenes that would be very complicated to make real.

Hay varias escenas icónicas del anime que estuvieron muy bien hechas en la serie, pero mencionaré mis tres favoritas:

Primero, la despedida de Sanji con Zeff en el Baratie🥺 A los hombres se les dificulta expresar sus sentimientos y ellos dos son el mejor ejemplo de eso. Es realmente emotivo cuando deben despedirse, dado que Sanji se une a Luffy. Zeff es solo un padre que quiere ver triunfar y cumpliendo su sueño a su “berenjenita”, y Sanji sabe que le debe todo lo que tiene a los sacrificios de Zeff. Realmente amo esa escena, porque pude conectar con sus emociones.

There are several iconic scenes from the anime that were very well done in the series, but I'll mention my three favorites:

First, Sanji's farewell with Zeff at the Baratie🥺 Men have a hard time expressing their feelings, and the two of them are the best example of that. It's really touching when they have to say goodbye, since Sanji joins Luffy. Zeff is just a father who wants to see his son succeed and fulfill his dream, and Sanji knows that he owes everything he has to Zeff's sacrifices. I really love that scene, because I was able to connect with their emotions.

Nami pidiéndole ayuda a Luffy para salvar su aldea, es una escena que me rompió el corazón. Ella es un personaje que ha tenido que sobrevivir por su cuenta, en un difícil contexto, por esa razón siempre hace todo sola, no pide ayuda, y ese es el motivo de por qué esta escena tiene tanto peso. Ella confió en otra persona, y pidió ayuda en algo sumamente importante en su vida. Además, Luffy prometiendo que lo haría mientras le da su sombrero de paja, su mayor tesoro, creando un hermoso vínculo entre ambos, fue algo increíblemente emocionante.

Nami asking Luffy for help to save her village is a scene that broke my heart. She's a character who has had to survive on her own, in a difficult context, for that reason she always does everything alone, she doesn't ask for help, and that's the reason why this scene carries so much weight. She trusted someone else, and asked for help in something extremely important in her life. Also, Luffy promising to do so while giving her his straw hat, his greatest treasure, creating a beautiful bond between the two, was something incredibly touching.

Y la escena final, cuando todos colocan sus pies en el barril mientras mencionan sus sueños, fue simplemente W-O-W✨Esos minutos encapsula la verdadera esencia de la historia, la cual es salir al mundo y perseguir tus sueños, sin importar los diferentes obstáculos que se presenten en el camino, siempre debes mantener la confianza en lo que haces; además, es importante apoyarte en compañeros que compartan tu misma visión, porque todo es mejor cuando estás acompañado de verdaderos amigos.

And the final scene, when everyone places their feet in the barrel while mentioning their dreams, was simply W-O-W✨ Those minutes encapsulate the true essence of the story, which is to go out into the world and pursue your dreams, no matter the different obstacles along the way, you must always remain confident in what you do; moreover, it is important to lean on peers who share your same vision, because everything is better when true friends accompany you.

Otro factor clave para el éxito de la serie fue la elección de los actores, todos quedaron increíblemente perfectos en su papel. Ellos le dieron el amor, dedicación y esfuerzo necesario para traer a la realidad a sus personajes.

Luffy, el capitán de la tripulación, se convirtió en uno de mis personajes favoritos del mundo del anime. Es extrovertido, lleno de energía y muy decidido, él sabe lo que quiere y se preparó durante años para conseguirlo, y el mexicano Iñaki Godoy es su reencarnación. Este personaje te hace reír con su ingenuidad, te deja en la expectativa cuando se enoja y decide luchar, y te inspira por la confianza que tiene en sus sueños, e Iñaki logró interpretar de manera espléndida todo eso. Siento que él en sí, en su vida diaria, es un Luffy de pies a cabeza.

Another key factor for the success of the series was the choice of actors, all of whom were incredibly perfect in their roles. They gave the love, dedication and effort needed to bring their characters to reality.

Luffy, the captain of the crew, became one of my favorite characters in the anime world. He is outgoing, full of energy and very determined, he knows what he wants and prepared himself for years to get it, and the Mexican Iñaki Godoy is his reincarnation. This character makes you laugh with his naivety, leaves you in expectation when he gets angry and decides to fight, and inspires you by the confidence he has in his dreams, and Iñaki managed to play all that splendidly. I feel that he himself, in his daily life, is a Luffy from head to toe.

Sanji, cuando no está preparando una comida exquisita, seguramente lo encontrarás dándole una buena patada a los villanos (o seduciendo a alguna chica). Amo este personaje, es mi crush ficticio, y estoy increíblemente complacida con el trabajo que realizó el español Taz Skylar💕 Sinceramente, admiro a este hombre. Él entrenó para hacer sus escenas de acción y luchar como Sanji, quien solo usa sus piernas en las peleas; además, tomó clases de cocina, porque esa es la gran pasión de su personaje. Él cumplió mi fantasía de traer a la realidad un personaje de anime.

Y como mencioné al principio, vi la serie en los dos idiomas, dado que el doblaje en español de Luffy y Sanji lo realizaron sus actores. Hay personas que criticaron esto, especialmente a Taz por su acento español, y estoy totalmente en desacuerdo, uno de los puntos claves de One Piece es la diversidad de los personajes (ellos están recorriendo el mundo), por lo tanto, el acento español del actor fue un toque muy acertado para el personaje.

Sanji, when he's not preparing an exquisite meal, you'll surely find him giving villains a good kicking (or seducing some girl). I love this character, he's my fictional crush, and I'm incredibly pleased with the work done by Spanish Taz Skylar💕 Honestly, I admire this man. He trained to do his action scenes and fight as Sanji, who only uses his legs in fights; also, he took cooking classes, because that's his character's great passion. He fulfilled my fantasy of bringing an anime character to reality.

And as I mentioned at the beginning, I watched the series in both languages, since the Spanish dubbing of Luffy and Sanji was done by their actors. There are people who criticized this, especially Taz for his Spanish accent, and I totally disagree, one of the key points of One Piece is the diversity of the characters (they are traveling the world), therefore, the actor's Spanish accent was a very accurate touch for the character.

Nami es una mujer fuerte e inteligente, ambiciosa, pero con un corazón enorme, y Emily Rudd fue fiel a la esencia del personaje💕 Emily no solo es una mujer encantadora, sino que además es gran fan del anime, permitiendo que pudiera interpretar de maravilla a Nami. Es un personaje que realmente me encanta, conecto con ella en varias situaciones, y admiro su sueño de ser cartógrafa y querer recorrer el mundo.

Zoro, interpretado por el actor japonés Mackenyu, fue un sueño hecho realidad para muchos, porque también es increíble su parecido con el personaje. Sus escenas de acción estuvieron de maravillas, y realmente vi la vibra de Zoro en él. Sé que el personaje se convertirá en el mejor espadachín del mundo, mientras que Mackenyu se le abrirán muchas puertas debido a su actuación.

Nami is a strong and intelligent woman, ambitious, but with a huge heart, and Emily Rudd was faithful to the essence of the character💕 Emily is not only a lovely woman, but she is also a big fan of the anime, allowing her to play Nami wonderfully. She's a character I really love, I connect with her in various situations, and I admire her dream of being a cartographer and wanting to travel the world.

Zoro, played by Japanese actor Mackenyu, was a dream come true for many, because his resemblance to the character is also incredible. His action scenes were great, and I really saw Zoro's vibe in him. I know the character will become the best swordsman in the world, while Mackenyu will have many doors opened for him because of his acting.

Jacob Romero Gibson fue el perfecto gato asustado de Usopp. De verdad estoy muy satisfecha con los actores, fueron perfectos para sus papeles, no solo físicamente, sino también su manera de interpretar al personaje, porque sí, ellos tenían un guion y conocían las características del mismo, pero fue más que una actuación, sientes que ellos son el personaje, y con Jacob tienes ese sentimiento.

Además, también debo decir que los actores secundarios ejecutaron un papel maravilloso, y yo llevo en mi corazón a Shanks y Zeff❤️ Y el desempeño de los villanos fue un 10/10✨ Mi favorito, sin duda, fue Buggy, el actor quedó perfecto en su papel, tiene ese sarcasmo y malicia del payaso, y aunque es un villano, estamos de acuerdo que todos lo queremos.

Jacob Romero Gibson was the perfect scaredy cat of Usopp. I really am very satisfied with the actors, they were perfect for their roles, not only physically, but also their way of interpreting the character, because yes, they had a script and they knew the characteristics of the character, but it was more than a performance, you feel that they are the character, and with Jacob you have that feeling.

In addition, I must also say that the supporting actors executed a wonderful role, and I hold Shanks and Zeff in my heart ❤️ And the performance of the villains was a 10/10✨ My favorite, without a doubt, was Buggy, the actor was perfect in his role, he has that sarcasm and malice of the clown, and although he is a villain, we agree that we all love him.

No quiero hacer más larga esta publicación —a pesar de que hay muchas cosas que quiero comentar— pero no podía dejar de mencionar la hermosa escenografía, explicando por qué esta ha sido la serie con mayor presupuesto de Netflix. Los lugares estaban muy bien creados, esa gente realizó un trabajo estupendo y se merecen un premio, mi escenario favorito fue el restaurante del Baratie, y los detalles en la embarcación del Going Merry.

Además, debemos aplaudir la fidelidad hacia el estilo de cada personaje, no solo en los vestuarios, sino también en el extremo cuidado que le dieron a los detalles: los ojos de Mihawk, la cicatriz de Shanks, las trenzas en los bigotes de Zeff, el diseño de los Gyojin, los Caracoles Transmisores, y podría continuar con la lista. Y añadir los carteles de “Se Busca” cuando aparece cada criminal me encantó, junto a los distintos logos de “One Piece” según la trama del capítulo, e incluso los créditos con el mapa es hermoso.

I don't want to make this post longer -even though there are many things I want to comment on- but I couldn't fail to mention the beautiful set design, explaining why this has been Netflix's biggest budgeted series. The locations were very well created, those people did a wonderful job and they deserve an award, my favorite set was the Baratie's restaurant, and the details on the Going Merry's boat.

Also, we must applaud the fidelity to the style of each character, not only in the costumes, but also in the extreme care given to the details: Mihawk's eyes, Shanks' scar, the braids on Zeff's whiskers, the design of the Gyojin, the Transmitter Shells, and I could go on with the list. And adding "Wanted" posters when each criminal appears I loved, along with the different "One Piece" logos depending on the plot of the chapter, and even the credits with the map is beautiful.

Son ocho capítulos que abarcan los primeros arcos de uno de los animes más emblemáticos de toda la historia. Sinceramente, disfruté desde el primer capítulo hasta el último, y hay que admitir en voz alta que es el mejor live action de un anime que se ha hecho✨

Solo conocía parte de la historia y los personajes porque son muy reconocidos, pero gracias a la serie me inspiré a dedicarle mi tiempo a la gran obra de Oda-sensei, ¡y qué gran decisión!💕 Estoy completamente enamorada del anime, es sencillamente impresionante y puedo comprender por qué su fandom es tan leal e inmenso. ¡Espero con ansias la segunda temporada!

There are eight chapters that cover the first arcs of one of the most iconic animes in all history. Honestly, I enjoyed from the first chapter to the last, and it has to be admitted out loud that it is the best live action of an anime ever made✨

I only knew part of the story and characters because they are so recognizable, but thanks to the series I was inspired to dedicate my time to Oda-sensei's great work, and what a great decision!💕 I'm completely in love with the anime, it's simply awesome, and I can understand why its fandom is so loyal and immense. I'm looking forward to the second season!
