[ENG-ESP] Visiting Isla Larga, and my first snorkeling experience🌊🌴

I am quite excited to share with you this experience I had a few weeks ago, because as I have already explained, traveling and visiting new places is my favorite thing in the world🩷 Like the last trips I have made, this excursion was hand in hand with TravelBqto, to visit for the first time the San Esteban National Park, specifically Isla Larga.

A trip with several surprises included, an ideal Saturday to release the stress I had been accumulating until that moment, a beautiful place that I recommend you all to visit.

Tengo bastante ilusión de compartirles esta experiencia que tuve hace pocas semanas, porque como ya he explicado, viajar y visitar lugares nuevos es mi cosa favorita en el mundo🩷 Al igual que los últimos viajes que he hecho, esa excursión fue de la mano con TravelBqto, para visitar por primera vez el Parque Nacional San Esteban, específicamente a Isla Larga.

Un viaje con varias sorpresas incluidas, un sábado ideal para liberar el estrés que había estado acumulando hasta ese momento, un lugar hermoso que les recomiendo a todos visitar.

This trip was on May 18, a day trip. The bus from the travel agency picked us up looking for our house at 3:00am, with the excitement of the trip I did not sleep well that night, but I recovered my sleep on the way. We arrived in the state of Carabobo, specifically Puerto Cabello, at 7:00 am. The sun was just starting to rise over the horizon at that time, as we waited to board our boat to get to the island. I love being at the docks, I like the vibes they transmit, having the opportunity to get away from the cities for a while and escape to a paradisiacal place for a while. And on every dock there are always beach dogs and kittens, a detail that I enjoy, because they are usually sociable and affectionate.

Este viaje fue el 18 de mayo, un paseo de un día, ida y vuelta. El autobús de la agencia de viajes nos pasó buscando a nuestra casa a las 3:00am, con la emoción del viaje no dormí bien esa noche, pero recuperé el sueño durante el camino. Llegamos al estado Carabobo, concretamente a Puerto Cabello, a las 7:00 am. El sol estaba comenzando a salir por el horizonte en ese momento, mientras esperábamos subir a nuestra lancha para llegar a la isla. Me encanta estar en los muelles, me gustan las vibras que transmiten, tener la oportunidad de alejarse un rato de las ciudades y escaparse a un lugar paradisiaco por un rato. Y en todo muelle siempre hay perritos y gatitos playeros, un detalle que yo disfruto, porque normalmente son sociables y cariñosos.

At 7:30am we were arriving at Isla Larga. I was enchanted with the place, it was love at first sight. The water of the beach was totally crystal clear, I think that only in Margarita Island I had seen a beach like this. There are no waves, the sea is calm and warm, you can clearly see every fish that is swimming next to you, which, by the way, are too many, of different sizes and colors.

When I get to the beach, I make it a rule to take off my clothes and go straight into the water. The salt water gives you life, it helps you regain energy. And then I get out and put on my sunscreen. The second time I went in the water, we all did it together: it was a complete family trip, my parents, my grandmother, my uncle and my sister, which was the detail I loved the most, we were all together. The sand is white and soft, at the edge of the beach it is reddish in color, but already in the sea it is grayish. And, to welcome us, a sea turtle came to the shore, very close to us.

A las 7:30am estábamos llegando a Isla Larga. Quedé encantada con el lugar, fue amor a primera vista. El agua de la playa era totalmente cristalina, creo que solo en la Isla de Margarita había visto una playa así. No hay olas, el mar es tranquilo y cálido, puedes ver claramente cada pez que está nadando a tu lado, que, por cierto, son demasiados, de distintos tamaños y colores.

Cuando llego a la playa es una regla quitarme la ropa, y entrar directamente al agua. El agua salada te da vida, te ayuda a recobrar energías. Y luego, salir y colocarme el protector solar. La segunda vez que entré al agua, lo hicimos todos juntos: fue un viaje familiar completo, mis padres, mi abuela, mi tío y mi hermana, que fue el detalle que más amé, todos estábamos juntos. La arena es blanca y suave, a la orilla de la playa es de color rojizo, pero ya adentro del mar es de color grisáceo. Y, para darnos la bienvenida, una tortuga marina se acercó a la orilla, muy cerca de nosotros.

After a few hours enjoying that beautiful beach, another rule is to walk around the place to get to know it. And, honestly, the island lives up to its name, it is long. All along, the water is still clear blue and calm, the trees reach the shore, and the sand is still white. The sun is powerful, so don't forget your sunscreen if you ever visit.

There is a specific site on this island that I wanted to visit: “The Sesostris”. German ships sunk on the beach of Isla Larga, belonging to the time of World War II. Germans who were stranded on the Venezuelan beaches, fleeing the conflict of the war, and in spite of different complications, they stayed living in our country. The ships were set on fire and later sunk, removed to Isla Larga. Now their remains are a tourist center, so close to the shore that you can get close enough to take pictures. However, you also have the opportunity to go snorkeling and see more than meets the eye.

Después de unas pocas horas disfrutando de esa playa tan hermosa, otra regla es caminar alrededor del lugar para conocer. Y, sinceramente, la isla le hace honor a su nombre, es larga. A todo lo largo se sigue manteniendo el azul claro y tranquilidad del agua, los árboles llegan hasta la orilla, y la arena se sigue manteniendo blanca. El sol potente, no olviden su protector solar si en algún momento la visitan.

Hay un sitio en especifico de esta isla que deseaba visitar: "El Sesostris". Embarcaciones alemanas hundidas en la playa de Isla Larga, perteneciente de la época de la II Guerra Mundial. Alemanes que quedaron varados en las playas venezolanas, huyendo del conflicto de la guerra, y a pesar de distintas complicaciones, se quedaron viviendo en nuestro país. Los barcos fueron incendiados y posteriormente hundidos, removidos hasta Isla Larga. Ahora sus restos son un centro turístico, tan cerca de la orilla que puedes acercarte tranquilamente para tomarte fotos. Sin embargo, también tienes la oportunidad de realizar buceo y ver más allá de lo que está a simple vista.

Paraíso Puerto Cabello helps you get to know the immensity of the Sesostris. I was really willing to do it, but I was also afraid, since I can't swim, I can barely float. However, there are experiences in life that cannot be ignored, especially if I would have a guide who would accompany me at all times. And so I had my first snorkeling experience.

I was fitted with the necessary equipment, we checked that everything was in place, and we began to approach the boat. I was always holding on to a safety line, and the guide was pulling me along little by little. Honestly, I thought it was a short experience, around the wreckage, but it was much more than that. One moment I could see the sand at the bottom in the sea, and the next everything went dark, and I never saw the bottom again. The sea opened up, and it was another world down there. There are two boats, you can see the stairs, the open doors, all the details of the surface of the boats are still intact, being home to a variety of fish, plants, and even a couple of sea turtles that approached us. Despite the fear I had at the time, it was 20 minutes of snorkeling, I enjoyed every second of it. I hyperventilated from panic, it was open sea, and I have a lot of respect for the sea; I cried from the excitement, laughed from the disbelief that I was there, and felt proud to have had the courage. One of the best experiences of my life.

Paraíso Puerto Cabello te ayuda a conocer la inmensidad del Sesostris. Realmente tenía la disposición de hacerlo, pero también tenía miedo, dado que no sé nadar, apenas puedo flotar. No obstante, hay experiencias en la vida que no se pueden ignorar, especialmente si tendría un guía que me acompañaría en todo momento. Y así tuve mi primera experiencia de snorkel.

Me colocaron el equipo necesario, comprobamos que todo estuviera bien puesto, y comenzamos acercarnos a la embarcación. Siempre estuve sostenida a un salvavidas, y el guía me iba jalando poco a poco. Sinceramente, pensé que era una experiencia corta, alrededor de los restos que se veían, pero era mucho más que eso. En un momento podía ver la arena del fondo en el mar, y al otro todo se oscureció, y no volví a ver el fondo. El mar se abrió, y era otro mundo allí abajo. Hay dos embarcaciones, se logra ver las escaleras, las puertas abiertas, todos los detalles de la superficie de los barcos aun se mantienen intactos, siendo el hogar de una variedad de peces, plantas, e incluso un par de tortugas marinas que se acercaron a nosotros. A pesar del miedo que tenía en el momento, fueron 20 minutos de snorkel, disfruté cada segundo. Hiperventilé por el pánico, era mar abierto, y le tengo mucho respeto al mar; lloré por la emoción, reí por la incredulidad de que estaba ahí, y me sentí orgullosa de haber tenido el valor. Una de las mejores experiencias de mi vida.

When the experience was over, and I returned to my chair, I took a nap. I admit that I was dizzy for several minutes, perhaps because of the oxygen limitation, but I had no regrets, a short nap on the shore of the beach does format your system. Besides, eating lunch, and a strawberry ice cream, helped me recover my energy.

Another nice detail of these trips is the opportunity to meet people, make new relationships, and share with others for a moment. Since, in spite of being with your family or friends, it is inevitable not to share with the other people who are also on the bus; we may not see each other again, but during that moment it is fun and nice to talk and enjoy the situation.

Cuando se terminó la experiencia, y volví a mi silla, tomé una siesta. Admito que estuve mareada por varios minutos, quizás por la limitación del oxígeno, pero no me arrepentí de nada, una corta siesta a orilla de playa te formatea el sistema. Además, comer el almuerzo, y un helado de fresa, me ayudó a recuperar la energía.

Otro detalle agradable de estos viajes es la oportunidad de conocer personas, hacer nuevas relaciones, y compartir con otros por un momento. Dado que, a pesar de estar con tu familia o amigos, es inevitable no compartir con las otras personas que también van en el autobús; quizás no nos volvamos a ver, pero durante ese momento es divertido y agradable conversar y disfrutar de la situación.

It was a simple trip, except for that moment with the Sesostris, but the experience will never be forgotten. Isla Larga became one of my favorite beaches, I would recommend it to anyone, it is beautiful, relaxing, a little paradise. I would love to go again, since I didn't know the other side of the island, the open sea that surrounds everything, so it's my excuse to go back. And if possible, to know other beaches of Puerto Cabello, because I fell in love with this one🩷✨.

Fue un viaje sencillo, a excepción de ese momento con el Sesostris, pero la experiencia jamás se olvidará. Isla Larga se convirtió en una de mis playas favoritas, se la recomendaría a cualquier persona, es hermosa, relajante, un pequeño paraíso. Me encantaría volver a ir, dado que no conocí el otro lado de la isla, el mar abierto que rodea todo, así que es mi excusa para regresar. Y si es posible, conocer otras playas de Puerto Cabello, porque quedé enamorada de esta🩷✨
