My opinion about Solo Leveling || Mi opinión sobre Solo Leveling☠️🌀

It's been a while since I've shared with you my opinion about an anime, and not because I haven't watched more (I finish one and start another😂), it's just that I hadn't had the disposition to sit down and write a good post about it, especially when the anime deserves a good review. And is that Solo Leveling earned all my admiration, from the manhwa to the anime I found it a masterpiece, and if you haven't given it a chance yet, I hope this is the sign you needed to do it and go directly to watch it when you finish reading this post.

“Las mismas experiencias pueden afectarnos de formas diferentes”

Ha pasado bastante tiempo que no les comparto mi opinión sobre un anime, y no porque no haya visto más (termino uno y comienzo otro😂), es solo que no había tenido la disposición de sentarme y redactar un buen post sobre el tema, especialmente cuando el anime merece una buena reseña. Y es que Solo Leveling se ganó toda mi admiración, desde el manhwa hasta el anime me pareció una obra maestra, y si aún no le has dado una oportunidad, espero que este sea la señal que necesitabas para hacerlo e ir directamente a verlo cuando termines de leer esta publicación.

With a 4.9/5 rating on Crunchyroll, the Solo Leveling anime was released earlier this year, perfect for fans of video games, action and fantasy.

This story tells us that decades ago energy portals (corridors between our world and other dimensions) began to appear, whose interior, known as dungeons, are inhabited by beings and monsters of different forms. This immense energy radiated by the portals awakened a strange power in some humans, who would have greater strength, speed, intelligence and vitality, who would later be called hunters. These hunters are classified in order according to the amount of their magical power, from the highest to the lowest are: S, A, B, C, D and E. Once this power is “awakened”, no matter how hard they try, they will not be able to increase and improve their magic level. And, in the same way, dungeons are ranked in the same order according to their own magic power (and danger)

Every time a group of hunters enters a dungeon it is known as a raid, whose main objective is to defeat the dungeon boss to make the dungeon disappear. These monsters must be defeated quickly, since after seven days the portal could open completely and the monsters could reach our world.

¿De qué trata?

Con una calificación de 4.9/5 en Crunchyroll, a principios de este año se estrenó el anime de Solo Leveling, perfecto para los amantes de videojuegos, acción y fantasía.

Esta historia nos narra que hace décadas comenzaron a aparecer portales de energía (pasillos entre nuestro mundo y otras dimensiones), cuyo interior, conocido como mazmorras, habitan seres y monstruos de diferentes formas. Esta inmensa energía que irradian los portales hizo despertar un extraño poder en algunos humanos, los cuales tendrían mayor fuerza, velocidad, inteligencia y vitalidad, que luego serían llamados cazadores. Dichos cazadores son clasificados en orden según la cantidad de su poder mágico, de mayor a menos son: S, A, B, C, D y E. Una vez que se "despierta" este poder, no importa cuánto se esfuercen, no podrán aumentar y mejorar su nivel de magia. Y, de igual manera, las mazmorras se clasifican según ese mismo orden de acuerdo a su propio poder mágico (y peligro)

Cada vez que un grupo de cazadores entra a una mazmorra se le conoce como incursión, cuyo principal objetivo es derrotar al jefe de la mazmorra para hacerla desaparecer. Se debe vencer a estos monstruos rápidamente, dado que después de siete días el portal podría abrirse por completo y los monstruos llegar a nuestro mundo.

Is it a video game? Well, no. It's the life of Sung Jin-woo, the protagonist of this story. Known as «the weakest hunter», he is a level E who is always on the verge of death in his raids, he doesn't have much strength or speed compared to other hunters, he is only a little above an ordinary human. However, he keeps risking his life, because he needs the money from these raids (paid by a government organization) to pay for the medical treatment of his comatose mother.

One day, the team where Sung works finds a 'double dungeon', that is, they defeated all the monsters of a low rank dungeon, but further inside they found the entrance of a second dungeon. What they did not know is that this was not of the same rank, on the contrary, it would be one of the strongest ever recorded, with beings of the same level. It would later become known as the Cartenon Temple, a dungeon with its own rules, and terrors that none of them could imagine. What chance of getting out alive could lesser D and E rank hunters have? Not many, really. And, as mentioned in the first seconds of the first chapter, this is where our protagonist “dies”.

¿Es un videojuego? Pues, no. Es la vida de Sung Jin-woo, el protagonista de esta historia. Conocido como «el cazador más débil», es un nivel E que siempre está al borde de la muerte en sus incursiones, no tiene mucha fuerza o velocidad en comparación a otros cazadores, solo está un poco por arriba de un humano ordinario. Sin embargo, se mantiene arriesgando su vida, debido a que necesita el dinero de estas incursiones (pagadas por una organización del gobierno) para costear el tratamiento médico de su madre en coma.

Un día, el equipo donde trabaja Sung encuentra una ‘doble mazmorra’, es decir, derrotaron todos los monstruos de una mazmorra de bajo rango, pero más adentro encontraron la entrada de una segunda mazmorra. Lo que no sabían es que esta no era del mismo rango, al contrario, sería una de las más fuertes que han sido registradas, con seres del mismo nivel. Posteriormente, se conocería como el Templo Cartenon, una mazmorra con sus propias reglas, y terrores que ninguno de ellos podría imaginarse. ¿Qué oportunidades de salir con vida podrían tener cazadores menores de rango D y E? No muchas, la verdad. Y, como lo mencionan en los primeros segundos del primer capítulo, aquí "muere" nuestro protagonista.

After «surviving» that level S dungeon, for very curious reasons that I won't mention so as not to make you a bigger spoiler, Sung starts to see “notifications”; a system that only he can notice, where he receives daily quests, special quests, messages, rewards and punishments. He also has an inventory, stats, buying or selling magic artifacts, just like a regular role-playing video game. You can even see the stats of your skills, and improve them as you level up... alone (“solo leveling”). An ability that no other hunter has.

The course of the story unfolds as if the protagonist were living inside a video game. A system that only he can see, which helps him to improve, and become an exceptional hunter as he progresses through different challenges that the “system” will give him. The main objective of everything is the development of the “player”. For each mission he performs, he will receive points that he can divide among the different skills he possesses, and also obtain other rewards. However, it can become a bit tedious, because you receive points easily and quickly, you notice the preference as Dumbledore with Gryffindor, and you realize that the development of Sung is not in a natural rhythm, there is a lot of emphasis to level up.

Ahora, ¿qué tiene que ver con los videojuegos?

Luego de «sobrevivir» a esa mazmorra de nivel S, por razones muy curiosas que no mencionaré para no hacerles un mayor spoiler, Sung comienza a ver “notificaciones”; un sistema que solo él puede notar, donde recibe misiones diarias, misiones especiales, mensajes, recompensas y castigos. También tiene un inventario, estadísticas, compra o venta de artefactos mágicos, tal cual como un videojuego de rol común. Incluso puede ver los stats de sus habilidades, e ir mejorando a medida que suba de nivel… solo (“solo leveling”). Una habilidad que ningún otro cazador tiene.

El transcurso de la historia se desarrolla como si el protagonista estuviera viviendo dentro un videojuego. Un sistema que solo él puede ver, que lo ayuda a mejorar, y convertirse en un cazador excepcional a medida que va avanzando en diferentes desafíos que le dará dicho “sistema”. El principal objetivo de todo es el desarrollo del “jugador”. Por cada misión que realice recibirá puntos que puede dividir entre las diferentes habilidades que posee, y también obtener otras recompensas. Sin embargo, puede llegar a ser un poco tedioso, porque recibe puntos de manera fácil y rápida, se nota la preferencia como Dumbledore con Gryffindor, y te das cuenta de que el desarrollo de Sung no es en un ritmo natural, hay mucho énfasis a que suba de nivel.

Solo Leveling is a story that was recommended to me by several people, but before watching the anime I read the manhwa (it's a Korean story), and I was totally fascinated, I don't know how to explain how much I loved it. The drawing, the design of each element, is incredibly well crafted. I quickly connected with the plot and the protagonist. And, little by little, it became an obsession, at the end of each chapter I was eager to know more.

At no time does it feel heavy, there is no filler, there is always a constant development, and in each chapter there is something new that keeps you tense and in expectation of what will happen next. You recognize that the protagonist is going to get the victory in every battle, but it's still arranged to make your hair stand on end, and also, get you excited about what you're seeing. And, in my opinion, I think the producers of the anime managed to capture that magic of manhwa; I felt that excitement again in the anime.

Solo Leveling es una historia que me recomendaron varias personas, pero antes de ver el anime leí el manhwa (es una historia coreana), y quedé totalmente fascinada, no sé cómo explicarles lo mucho que me encantó. El dibujo, el diseño de cada elemento, está increíblemente bien elaborado. Me conecté rápidamente con la trama y el protagonista. Y, poco a poco, se fue convirtiendo en una obsesión, al finalizar cada capítulo tenía las ansias de saber más.

En ningún momento se siente pesado, no hay relleno, siempre se presenta un constante desarrollo, y en cada capítulo hay algo nuevo que te mantiene tenso y en la expectativa de qué va a suceder a continuación. Reconoces que el protagonista va a conseguir la victoria en cada batalla, pero igual está arreglado para ponerte los pelos de punta, y además, emocionarte por lo que vas viendo. Y, desde mi opinión, creo que los productores del anime lograron capturar esa magia del manhwa; esa emoción la volví a sentir en el anime.

One detail that I personally like is the beginning of everything. That initial arc is one of my favorites, not only because of the well-designed context and plot it represents, but also because it gets you right into the story. There's no recap of the past, or slow opening chapters to get you acquainted with the protagonist, no, right off the bat, it starts with everything. It doesn't sugarcoat the story for you. And that motivated me to keep reading and watching, it gave me the idea that this is how everything would be, it wouldn't waste time or go off the rails, that everything would be concise and precise, and I love that.

The action scenes in both the manhwa and the anime are brilliant. They are bloody, strong, uncensored, but also very clever. Also, Sung is not a kind of hero. He's not evil, his intentions are usually good, but he has a very distinct outlook on life, which gives his character gray tones. He is not a Naruto or a Luffy, where everything is either good or bad, here he is what he is, you will see how you judge him.

¿Qué detalles destacaron?

Un detalle que, personalmente, me gusta, es el inicio de todo. Ese arco inicial es uno de mis favoritos, no solo por el bien diseño del contexto y la trama que representa, sino que además te entra directamente a la historia. No hay una recapitulación del pasado, o unos lentos capítulos de inicio para que conozcas al protagonista, no, de una vez, comienza con todo. No te endulza la historia. Y eso me motivó a continuar leyendo y viendo, me dio la idea de que así sería todo, no perdería tiempo ni se iría por las ramas, que todo sería conciso y preciso, y eso me encanta.

Las escenas de acción, tanto en el manhwa como en el anime, son brillantes. Son sangrientas, fuertes, sin censura, pero también muy inteligentes. Además, Sung no es una clase de héroe. No es malo, sus intenciones normalmente son buenas, pero tiene una visión de la vida muy marcada, lo que le da sus tonos grises al personaje. No es un Naruto o un Luffy, donde todo es bueno o malo, aquí es lo que es, tú verás como lo juzgas.

I like that Sung Jin-woo always keeps developing himself. And yes, maybe that's what the anime is about, but it's that his personal development is meaningful, it's motivating, he never backs down no matter the obstacle, he was afraid of everything, but he was looking for a way to keep going and not die trying.

Also, the soundtrack is a 10/10. Too good. It's the ideal rhythm and melody for each scene, it helps you connect with the right feelings according to what's happening, and your heart beats to the same rhythm of everything. And, obviously, its opening is one of those you can't skip.

Me gusta que Sung Jin-woo siempre se mantiene desarrollándose. Y sí, quizás de eso se trata el anime, pero es que su desarrollo personal es significativo, es motivador, nunca se echa para atrás sin importar el obstáculo, él le tenía miedo a todo, pero buscaba la manera de continuar y no morir en el intento.

Además, la banda sonora es un 10/10. Demasiado buena. Es el ritmo y melodía ideal para cada escena, te ayuda a conectar con las sensaciones correctas según lo que está sucediendo, y tu corazón late al mismo ritmo de todo. Y, obviamente, su opening es de esos que no puedes saltar.

In the anime I didn't like the idea of advancing scenes, story plots, introducing moments ahead of time, generating confusion. Probably, they did it with the intention of not making it feel so fast, or that there was no external context in the anime, but that's just the way the original story is. The title is “Solo Leveling”, everything is mainly focused on the protagonist, and I like the rhythm of the manhwa better where each element is introduced in its due time.

Returning to what I just said, the fact that the story is exclusively about a protagonist, may be a bit boring for some. Because it is true that the secondary characters are interesting, but they are not given as much relevance, and they clearly have no development, at least very minimal compared to Sung.

And finally, there are moments that happen too fast. There is a lot of information to assimilate, and several times, you are not given enough time or narrative to understand it briefly. Sometimes I had to read things twice, or replay the scene, to understand what was happening. It takes a lot of patience.

¿Qué puede mejorarse?

En el anime no me gustó la idea de adelantar escenas, tramas de la historia, introduciendo momentos antes de tiempo, generando confusión. Probablemente, lo hicieron con la intensión de que no se sintiera tan rápido, o que no había un contexto externo en el anime, pero es que así es la historia original. El título es "Solo Leveling", todo está centrado principalmente en el protagonista, y me gusta más el ritmo del manhwa en donde cada elemento se va introduciendo en su debido momento.

Retomando lo que acabo de decir, el hecho de que la historia sea exclusivamente acerca de un protagonista, puede que para algunos sea un poco aburrida. Porque es cierto que los personajes secundarios son interesantes, pero no se les da tanta relevancia, y claramente no tienen un desarrollo, al menos muy mínimo en comparación Sung.

Y, para finalizar, hay momentos que suceden demasiado rápido. Hay mucha información que asimilar, y varias veces, no te dan el tiempo suficiente o la narrativa necesaria para comprenderlo brevemente. En ocasiones tuve que leer las cosas dos veces, o volver a repetir la escena, para entender lo que sucedía. Es necesario mucha paciencia.

Something I learned from Sung Jin-woo, who spent most of his points on increasing the strength skill, is that when you work on your intelligence, mental agility, you become more powerful (something he understood already at the end😂).

Speaking more seriously, there are many highlights in this anime, which makes you understand its excellent Crunchy score and why audiences love and recommend it. It's a story that, for me, was original. It has its tense moments, but also funny and even a little sweet. Likewise, it's 12 chapters that leave you wanting more, and that, without any doubt, I recommend you go watch it now, if you haven't already✨

Algo que aprendí de Sung Jin-woo, quién gastaba la mayor parte de sus puntos en aumentar la habilidad de fuerza, es que cuando trabajas tu inteligencia, agilidad mental, te vuelves más poderoso (algo que comprendió ya al final😂)

Hablando con más seriedad, hay muchas cosas destacables en este anime, que te hace comprender su excelente puntuación en Crunchy y el porqué el público lo ama y recomienda. Es una historia que, para mí, fue original. Tiene sus momentos tensos, pero también divertidos e incluso un poquito dulces. Son 12 capítulos que te dejan deseando más, y que, sin ninguna duda, te recomiendo que vayas a verlos ahora, si aún no lo has hecho✨
