[ENG-ESP] Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses🌹❤️‍🔥

I hadn't stopped by here in a while because I hadn't read a book that I really connected with, a fact that had me sad, because one thing I love is reading. However, talking to a friend, she made me a list of the last fantasy genre books she had read and liked, to motivate me...and I thank her so much!✨

Fantasy novels are one of my greatest passions, I love them madly; I have always felt that books are a respite of freedom for me, an escape from reality, and this genre is one of the greatest ideals for that. Among so many titles she recommended me, I started with the saga written by Sarah J. Maas, the first book is called A Court of Thorns and Roses, and here I'll give you my opinion on Feyre and Tamlin🌹

Tenía tiempo sin pasar por acá debido a que no había leído un libro con el que realmente conectara, un hecho que me tenía triste, porque algo que amo es leer. Sin embargo, hablando con una amiga, me hizo una lista de los últimos libros de género de fantasía que había leído y le gustaron, para motivarme… ¡y le agradezco tanto!✨

Las novelas de fantasía son una de mis mayores pasiones, las amo con locura; siempre he sentido que los libros son un respiro de libertad para mí, un escape de la realidad, y este género es uno de los mayores ideales para eso. Entre tantos títulos que ella me recomendó, comencé con la saga escrita por Sarah J. Maas, el primer libro se llama Una Corte de Rosas y Espinas, y aquí te daré mi opinión sobre Feyre y Tamlin🌹

Feyre and her family live in poverty, winter has arrived and the few resources they had to survive have been exhausted, therefore, Feyre —the only one who does something for the survival of the family—is forced to go hunting, although in the middle of winter it is not an easy task. She finds a deer, but a gigantic wolf attacks the prey, and she decides to use her best arrow, which she had saved for an extraordinary occasion, to kill this wolf.

The days go by normally, Feyre and her family have food and a little money, when one night a beast appears claiming the life of the person who murdered her friend. It turns out that it was no ordinary animal, it belonged to one of the courts of the high lords of Prythian, a country of immortals where humans are not welcome, but Feyre is forced to go, to settle the debt for murdering one of them.

A magical world, extraordinary in every detail, beyond what a human could imagine, but as lethal to mortals as an ash wood arrow is to immortals, and with a curse that threatens to destroy every corner of the country and its inhabitants.

Feyre y su familia viven en la pobreza, el invierno ha llegado y los pocos recursos que tenían para sobrevivir se han agotado, por lo tanto, Feyre -la única que hace algo por la sobrevivencia de la familia- se ve obligada a salir a cazar, aunque en pleno invierno no es una tarea fácil. Encuentra un ciervo, pero un gigantesco lobo ataca a la presa, y ella decide usar su mejor flecha, que tenía guardada para una ocasión extraordinaria, para asesinar este lobo.

Los días transcurren con normalidad, Feyre y su familia tienen comida y un poco de dinero, cuando una noche aparece una bestia reclamando la vida de la persona que asesinó a su amigo. Acontece que no era un animal ordinario, pertenecía a una de las cortes de los altos lores de Prythian, un país de inmortales donde los humanos no son bienvenidos, pero Feyre es obligada a ir, para saldar la deuda por asesinar a uno de ellos.

Un mundo mágico, extraordinario en cada detalle, más allá de lo que un humano podría imaginar, pero tan letal para los mortales como una flecha de madera de fresno para los inmortales, y con una maldición que amenaza en destruir cada rincón del país y sus habitantes.

This story is quite inspired by "Beauty and the Beast", but with a plot far from the Disney perspective. A shapeshifting Beast, who really is a handsome man, more than a prince, he is a warrior, but still has that charm that makes us fall in love with him. On the other hand, this Belle is not a harmless damsel, she knows how to use the bow and arrow, she won't be afraid to stick a dagger in your back, but with love to paint💜

It has many plus points, but in my opinion it also has several inconsistencies in the story, so I will begin to break down (without spoilers) these elements.

Esta historia tiene bastante inspiración en “La Bella y la Bestia”, pero con una trama lejana a la perspectiva de Disney. Una Bestia cambiaformas, que realmente es un hombre atractivo, más que un príncipe es un guerrero, pero que aún tiene ese encanto que nos enamora. Por otro lado, esta Bella no es una damisela inofensiva, sabe cómo utilizar el arco y flecha, no temerá en clavarte un puñal en la espalda, pero con amor a la pintura💜

Tiene muchos puntos a favor, pero en mi opinión también presenta varias inconsistencias en la historia, así que comenzaré a desglosar (sin spoilers) estos elementos.

I love reading about new worlds and I think Maas did a good job here. Prythian is divided into seven courts (spring, summer, autumn, winter, dawn, day, and night), each ruled by a lord fae, an immortal with human traits and extraordinary gifts. Centuries ago the high fae had the human race enslaved, until a war broke out that ended with an agreement; but while the immortals lived in peace and with all the resources that magic can offer, the humans fell into decadence, not knowing how to rise from the ashes of war.

I was enchanted by this!✨ The book has images of the Prythian map and the nearby continents. Feyre is taken to the Spring Court, one of my favorite seasons, and the way the writer details the magical places these lands have allows you to expand your imagination and creativity, you never think it's far-fetched, it's a realm where magic is the protagonist, and in fantasy anything is possible. Its perfection contrasts with the misery of the human lands, with the tension of an upcoming civil war, and the absence of goodness in almost most of its inhabitants, but once your mind enters there you don't want to go back to reality in a while.

Me encanta leer sobre nuevos mundos y considero que Maas hizo un buen trabajo aquí. Prythian está dividida en siete cortes (primavera, verano, otoño, invierno, amanecer, día y noche), cada una gobernada por un alto fae, inmortal con rasgos humanos y dones extraordinarios. Siglos atrás los altos fae tenían esclavizados a la raza humana, hasta que se desató una guerra que terminó con un acuerdo; pero mientras los inmortales vivían en paz y con todos los recursos que la magia puede ofrecer, los humanos entraron en decadencia, sin saber cómo levantarse desde las cenizas de la guerra.

¡Quedé encantada con esto!✨ El libro tiene imágenes del mapa de Prythian y los continentes cercanos. Feyre es llevada a la Corte Primavera, una de mis estaciones favoritas, y la manera en que la escritora detalla los lugares mágicos que tienen estas tierras te permite expandir tu imaginación y creatividad, nunca crees que es algo exagerado, es un reino donde la magia es protagonista, y en la fantasía cualquier cosa es posible. Su perfección contrasta con la miseria de las tierras humanas, con la tensión de una guerra civil próxima, y la ausencia de bondad en casi la mayoría de sus habitantes, pero una vez que tu mente entra ahí no quieres volver a la realidad en un tiempo.

Another element I loved was the construction of the plot details. It's not just the design of this world, it's also the design of its inhabitants. The high fae is perfection made real, so much so that our human eyes could not appreciate them as they are. Tamlin, the high fae in charge of the Spring Court, is just like Disney's Beast in his human version😂 And just like him, are all his kind. Wonderful, attractive, cunning, and powerful.

But there is also an inferior race of immortals, more related to nature, the seasons. In the course of the story there are several monsters that attack the protagonist, and although they are horrible, taken from nightmares, we must admit that they are very well-designed. Also, there are factors that help in the development of the story, such as Tamlin's curse, which is the basis of everything; it's a cliché of the fantasy genre that we love when it's well used, seeing the protagonist being the heroine of her lover, that ordinary human who feels she's useless, suddenly becomes the salvation. We love that, don't we?

Otro elemento que me encantó fue la construcción de los detalles de la trama. No es solo el diseño de este mundo, también es el diseño de sus habitantes. Los altos fae es la perfección hecha realidad, tanto que nuestros ojos humanos no podrían apreciarlos tal como son. Tamlin, el alto fae encargado de la Corte Primavera, es tal cuál a la Bestia de Disney en su versión humana😂 Y así como él, son todos los de su especie. Maravillosos, atractivos, astutos, y poderosos.

Pero también existe una raza inferior de inmortales, más relacionados con la naturaleza, las estaciones. En el transcurso de la historia aparecen diversos monstruos que atacan a la protagonista, y aunque son horribles, sacados de pesadillas, hay que admitir que están muy bien diseñados. Además, hay factores que ayudan en el desarrollo de la historia, como la maldición de Tamlin, que es la base de todo; es un cliché del género de fantasía que amamos cuando es bien usado, ver la protagonista ser la heroína de su amante, esa ordinaria humana que siente que es inútil, de repente se convierte en la salvación. Amamos eso, ¿verdad?

The main characters are not bad, however, in my opinion, they're not my favorite characters, this award goes to two secondary characters.

Lucien, is Tamlin's official emissary, his right hand, a high fae who is not afraid to show who he is. He is not a hypocritical character, what he shows you is what he is, he says things directly, he is not with dramas or gives unnecessary moments. With a sad and interesting backstory it's easy to connect with him, I enjoyed every moment of his appearances, and he made me laugh on several occasions.

Rhysand, is presented not as a friendly character, in fact he can be seen as an enemy, but believe me, it's impossible not to love him. Feyre describes him as "the most beautiful man she's ever seen in her life" (and in my mind he is too); he's extremely intelligent, he knows how to handle the situation, so cunning that he could predict what will happen next. He's terrific, Machiavellian, and I can't wait to learn more about him. He's one of those "villains" you love.

Los personajes principales no están mal, sin embargo, en mi opinión, no son mis personajes favoritos, este premio se lo lleva dos personajes secundarios.

Lucien, es el emisario oficial de Tamlin, su mano derecha, un alto fae que no teme mostrar quién es. No es un personaje hipócrita, lo que te muestra es lo que él es, dice las cosas directamente, no está con dramas ni otorga momentos innecesarios. Con una historia de fondo triste e interesante, es fácil conectar con él, disfrutaba cada momento de sus apariciones, y me hizo reír en diversas ocasiones.

Rhysand, es presentado no como un personaje amigable, de hecho se puede ver como un enemigo, pero créeme, es imposible no amarlo. Feyre lo describe como "el hombre más hermoso que ha visto en su vida" (y en mi mente también lo es); es sumamente inteligente, sabe cómo manejar la situación, tan astuto que podría predecir lo próximo que pasará. Él es estupendo, maquiavélico, y no puedo esperar por saber más de él. Es de esos “villanos” que te encantan.

The characteristics I will mention are based on my opinion and interests, there are certain things that did not fulfill my personal expectations, specifically the course of the plot, I feel it was a bit slow in several occasions, and even static, there are parts where something interesting does not happen and they were really too much. However, at the end of the book the plot improves in consideration.

Las características que mencionaré están basadas en mi opinión e intereses, hay ciertas cosas que no llenaron mis expectativas personales, específicamente el curso de la trama, siento que fue un poco lento en varias ocasiones, e incluso estático, hay partes en que no sucede algo interesante y realmente estaban de más. No obstante, al final del libro la trama mejora en consideración.

I'm in love with romance, but I love it to be developed, to go falling in love with the characters, and here I didn't feel it. It doesn't make sense, he's nice, he offers her everything she needs, and she decides to hate him because he took her away from her "life": a life of misery. He even takes care her family!! And all because of what?? she killed his friend! At least in Beauty and the Beast Belle's crime wasn't that great, and he at first wasn't kind. Feyre has to "pay a debt", but how? By letting herself be treated like a princess? I want that too😂

So I fail to understand how he loves her from the beginning, and she, who hates him for nothing, one day to the next reacts positively to his presence. At the end they explain the reason he is always nice, but that reason only confirmed my point, it was a forced love. It just happened because it did.

Estoy enamorada del romance, pero me encanta que esté desarrollado, ir enamorándome con los personajes, y aquí no lo sentí. No tiene sentido, él es amable, le ofrece todo lo que ella necesita, y ella decide odiarlo porque la alejó de su "vida": una vida de miseria. ¡Él incluso se hace cargo de la familia! ¿Y todo por qué? ¡Ella mató a su amigo! Al menos en La Bella y la Bestia el crimen de Bella no era tan grande, y él al principio no fue amable. Feyre tiene que “pagar una deuda”, pero ¿cómo? ¿Dejándose tratar como una princesa? Yo también quiero eso😂

Así que no logro comprender cómo es que él la ama desde un principio, y ella, que lo odia por nada, un día para otro reacciona positivamente a su presencia. Al final explican la razón por la cual él siempre se muestra amable, pero ese motivo solo confirmó mi punto, fue un amor forzado. Solo pasó porque sí.

On Instagram I read a comment that made me laugh so hard, Feyre is supposed to be the new Bella, but she only looks like the Bella from Twilight. At every turn she makes one decision more terrible than the other, she's stubborn for no reason, she has no sense of survival despite being a hunter, and there are so many times I want to go into the book and lock her up because it's obvious what she'll do next is wrong😂 She's a protagonist I didn't connect with.

And I can remember one scene that bothered me, spoiler warning, she is almost illiterate, but she wants to write a letter to her family, so Tamlin offers to help her and teach her, but she refuses out of pride; she mentions that that is one of her flaws, and when she can improve, she refuses the opportunity. Only at the end do I manage to really connect with her, because the situations she must go through are horrible, and I have a desire to protect her, but I had to read hundreds of pages to create a little bond.

En Instagram leí un comentario que me dio mucha risa, se supone que Feyre es la nueva Bella, pero solo se parece a la Bella de Crepúsculo. En cada momento toma una decisión más terrible que la otra, es terca sin motivo, no tiene sentido de supervivencia a pesar de ser cazadora, y hay tantas ocasiones en que quiero entrar en el libro y encerrarla porque es obvio que lo que hará próximamente está mal😂 Es una protagonista con la cual no conecté.

Y puedo recordar una escena que me molestó, aviso de spoiler, ella es casi analfabeta, pero desea escribir una carta a su familia, así que Tamlin se ofrece a ayudarla y enseñarle, pero lo rechaza por orgullo; ella menciona que ese es uno de sus defectos, y cuando puede mejorar, rechaza la oportunidad. Solo al final logro conectar realmente con ella, porque las situaciones que debe atravesar son horribles y tengo el deseo de protegerla, pero tuve que leer cientos de páginas para crear un pequeño vínculo.

All in all it's a novel I enjoyed and read quickly, I had gone a long time without being drawn to a book, and I was happy with this relationship. I've already started the second one, I'm liking this one better, I still want to punch Feyre, but Rhysand appears more often, and I'm satisfied with that detail.

Prythian deserves you to take a vacation through its territories, go visit it, meet its people, and if you come out alive, then you'll have had a good trip✨

A pesar de todo es una novela que disfruté y leí rápidamente, había pasado una larga temporada sin sentirme atraída por un libro, y me sentí feliz con esta relación. Ya comencé el segundo, este me está gustando más, aún sigo queriendo golpear a Feyre, pero Rhysand aparece más seguido y estoy satisfecha con ese detalle.

Prythian merece que te des unas vacaciones por sus territorios, ve a visitarlo, conoce a su gente, y si sales vivo, entonces habrás tenido un buen viaje✨
