He kicked off Detty December with one goal in mind, “HAVE A BLAST”. He was at every party, every outing, concerts were finally coming back after their long absence thanks to COVID and he was determined to be at every single concert.
He bought tickets, outfits and even invested in a service apartment on the island where he could crash after a night out if he didn’t want to make the long drive back to the mainland.
On Christmas Eve he finally called HER to make plans, she was livid. He had been having an amazing time and sharing every second on social media, he hadn’t thought to share that with her, it didn’t matter that she had told him clearly that she wanted a chill December as she had been overworked the entire year, he had gone out and had a good time without her and she didn’t like it, She called it quits.
He was angry, more about the timing than the fact that she no longer wanted their relationship.
It didn’t matter, he wouldn’t let it mess up his December.

He took a new girl for a dinner date on Christmas Day, she was gorgeous but they couldn’t connect on a cerebral level, it didn’t matter to him but he took note, barely.
They spent the week together, concerts, parties, the whole DETTY DECEMBER experience, by midnight on January first they shared a passionate kiss, it felt like adventure, forbidden fruit and electricity. It was almost perfect, but it wasn’t.
They went out for lunch later that day and it was perfect, she finally opened up to him even though she had already let him in the day after Christmas.
He learnt then that she didn’t live in Lagos and had merely come for the holidays to get away from her life in Abuja before the new year, she had been in a serious relationship the year before but it had ended in October and she had been trying since then to get over him.
She was leaving Lagos the next day because she had to get ready for work on Wednesday.

It was the day after new year’s, DETTY DECEMBER had come to a close officially, he was back in his living room taking mental inventory of what he had and what he needed.
She had taken an Uber to the airport because he seemed to be having Car trouble and she couldn’t miss her flight, His rent would be due in a few weeks and whilst as a responsible adult he had saved towards it, he would need to get the car fixed and he wasn’t sure how much that would cost.
He still had no friends, he was headed back to his 9-5 where he watched the clock whilst he worked begging God to keep him sane until it was time to clock out for the day and then spend several hours in Lagos traffic hoping to get home before midnight.
He needed a break, he needed to figure out what exactly he wanted from life, he needed someone who would understand that even though his salary was generous (considering the average pay in Lagos for his job description ) his work allowed him almost no personal time or peace of mind and no escape from the monotony of work.
He needed HER, but she had moved on, New year, New HER.
