Home…the safety and peace of mind that those four letters connote cannot be over emphasized.
A man might deal with all that life throws at him outside but once he comes home he is entitled to some rest and respite.

When I was in the university I was an ardent J cole fan, my roommates would know I was back once they heard Jermaines “I’ll be home for the holidays” blaring from my room. Ironically everything wasn’t peachy and perfect at home, on the contrary I’ve always had a rocky relationship with my father so being home and around him meant sitting on a time bomb that might explode at any minute…I would still take the fourteen hour car ride back home every chance I got because home is just home.

Once I was done with school I moved away from home to find the Nigerian dream, the Nigerian dream peddled to us in Nollywood movies growing up. Boy leaves home to the big city, boy makes it big in the city and comes home with an SUV and a trunk full of gifts for his family. The fact that my parents had done the same for their family only strengthened my resolve to do everything possible, work as hard as I could and make absolutely sure that I do not return until I can have P’squares testimony playing in the background upon my triumphant return.

After two record deals gone awry and impending mental breakdown coupled with the nonstop rat race that is living in Lagos, my favorite song became sweet escape by Mizzle…Lagos was taking a toll on me.
I got an opportunity that required me renewing my passport expeditiously and Lagos immigration service was determined to slow me down, so with the blessing of my boss I took an unplanned trip home to Abuja to sort out my passport and head back to Lagos.

The moment the plane touched down the airport I was filled with peace and tranquility like I had not experienced in the longest time, I was basking in the euphoria of being back home and I barely noticed when the weekend passed and my time was up…more importantly, my parents were super excited to see me even though there was no SUV ladden with gifts in sight yet.

Now as another unplanned trip takes me home for the second time since my move here, I’m filled with the same euphoria and joy. I strongly advocate to all young people chasing the Nigerian dream…”Try dey go house…hustle no dey finish”.

Sometimes all you need is to take a break, go back to your roots…Re strategize and come back with new energy…You’ll always be welcome home.
