Cerrando Ciclos, con problemas, pero cumpliendo metas. || Closing Cycles, with problems, but accomplishing goals. || @ediyelly
Approximately 4 or 5 months ago, I decided not to continue in the direction or administrative position as Head of Research at the University where I have worked for almost 21 years, this decision was manifested by inconveniences with the new Chief I have, plus I do not feel aligned with some of the people I work with, because I feel they do not have the desire to develop the necessary potential to strengthen that leadership that they coordinate and of course, I have been exhausted by working and having to give answers in what they should do. Each one of us must assume the responsibility of responding to the structure that guides us.
This is precisely what has been happening to me, and at this moment I am not here to do the work of others, but to develop my ideas, motivate others and execute innovative projects that will allow us to achieve a positive positioning in the academic community.
The case was that two months ago, I was asked to organize an International Congress, and I thought it would be very easy, because I would have many people working with me, the truth is that they have been the most stressful two months I have lived, because not everyone knows how to work in a team and the issue of "egos" was a catastrophic trigger.
Everything happened to us, from not having internet at home for 2 months, the University was without connection every week, the electricity was out all the time, one day, I went by bus and it was burning, I got a very strong flu just 3 days before the start of the event, and I had to be as a speaker, moderator, among others.
The initial meeting I had with the central commission to celebrate the Anniversary of the Institution, the request to organize the Congress, was specifically from the Rector of the University, and I remember I told him "if we have the two main issues that should be spearheaded for an international event such as: technology and communication management (image and video editing of the entire event, promotion plan among others), the organization will be simple, because internally we currently have more than 25 specialists in different areas, the rest will be to convene from other institutions.
The team that would be in charge of managing everything related to promotions in the networks, video editing, attention to digital promotions, did not respond, and I had to take on that job as well. In general terms, it was a real CHAOS, even though this was one of the cornerstones for the event to run smoothly.
As for technology, we had to look for allies, but at least the staff in charge worked excellently, and I will always be grateful, because the true leadership required in this area was evident.
To close with a flourish, they made some recognitions and left out many people who worked tirelessly so that the event could be developed, you can not imagine how bad it feels, that they change your plans from today to tomorrow, that they impose, that they do not listen to suggestions, and finally, that they call the people of the team with impositions, harassment and harassment to make changes, that is not productive. I confess that in the 22 years I have been in the education sector, this is the first time that I have collapsed in the organization, because many people wanted to assume roles that did not correspond, and took attributions such as passing over previously approved decisions, the truth is that with teams of this nature, it is not worth working.
They say that working with large teams facilitates the processes and responses, and I tell them that it depends, because if the team is clear on the objectives and goals and everyone works so that the results exceed expectations and not that individuality is what prevails, only then things can flow.
The role of the leader is fundamental, to allow people to present ideas, to be creative, and to have the confidence to generate solutions, that is the necessary scenario for things to happen in the best way, but, if you have internal conflicts, and want to impose based on hierarchies, without listening to the people, the truth is that the result will often be compromised.
I needed to publish in this space, it became a real CATARSIS for me, and these two months a little bit of everything happened to me, which I will tell you little by little. I end this space by saying that despite so many inconveniences, I have always had valuable people who contribute and support the ideas, thanks to all of them, the result was positive and we were able to meet the planned objectives.
Moral: A work team with many people will only work if there is true union, cohesion, trust, dialogue, communication, respect and many other human values that should be a fundamental pillar. It makes me very happy to organize these events, but if the team I am with generates physical, mental and emotional discomfort, it is not worth continuing, we must make the best decisions that allow us to be really happy, only then we will give more than 100% and always achieve the objectives and goals.
