Duo colored Crochet Ruffle Hat
#needlework
Hello everyone, it has been a very busy week and I haven’t had the chance to come here as often as I used to.
For today I’ll be writing about this ruffle hat I made for a client. I'll be sharing some challenges I faced while working on this.
A client reached out to me and said she wanted to get this design on a ruffle hat(honestly I think this is ruffle hat season because most of my orders have been ruffle hats. She sent a picture of what she wanted and the next issue was the price factor.
On a normal basis I don’t make posts about how my clients make me feel probably because it didn’t get to me that much. This particular client wanted to pay below the price and her defense was “when I use it or style it my friends would see it and come to order from you also, I’ll be promoting your business”
The day she came by the shop to make this negotiation I honestly didn’t know how to feel, I was shocked that she would actually put it out there that way, I mean I understand some clients when they just come plain and say they can’t afford the normal rate but this one left me speechless.
I waited for her to tell me all the reasons she wouldn’t pay the actual price and explain to her why we can’t deliver at the reduced rate.
She finally agreed to pay the normal rate and I got the constant “hope it will be fine”, “let it be this exact thing o”, and she started asking for the delivery like a few days after she ordered.
Relating with this particular client was one of the most uncomfortable situations I’ve ever handled.
For the fun part, I got to making the ruffle hat and I don’t think I faced any problem in particular. After making the base I had to change how I was making the dc stitches so it would give me this particular mesh-like look on the body of the hat.
For my line of work I feel color switching is very fun and makes the work look unique in some type of way.
I got on to making the ruffles and I had to switch to a bigger hook so the ruffles would puff.
Here I forgot to look at the picture she sent and did it that way. It was my mom that called my attention to the fact that this one doesn’t look like the ones we’ve been making and I was laughing when I saw the issue. I frogged the ruffles and started again.
This time I fixed the problem so it was giving the look she ordered. I loved the result and so far this is my favorite ruffle hat.
This is a list of the things I used while making this hat:
*measurement tape.
*4.0mm hook for the body and base.
*5.5mm hook for the ruffles.
*stitch marker.
*Darning needles.
Ps: the pictures used here belong to me and were taken with my mobile phone.
